spit in the face? pay cut? so you think we should give him 10 mill? hes a manager! his goal is to get to the WS. if he did, he would have gotten more money. obviously he had no confidence in that.

Maybe not a raise but at least re-up him at the same salary. Jeez, they're acting like they're the KC Royals. They're the almighty Yankees. So what if they give him 3 years at 8 mil/per and it's still not working out after 1 year? Fire his ass and eat the remaining 16 mil. That's chump change to them.
Oh well, you guys can have Willie back

Firstly it is the end of an ERA and i think thats amazing. I became a fan in 1995 so most of my life Im used to joe being the man.
Obviously he didnt take the package. They left him twisting in the wind, then offered him an embarrasing offer for a manager of his pedigree. Yes he should be winning in the postseason more often but based on the 4 championships, and making the postseason 12 seasons in a row despite alot of adversity and pressure its a terrible slap in the face.
From the yankees side, they seem smart because all the layers that were defending him cant say that Joe wasnt offered a contract, however its so obvious that they had no interest in Joe, this ploy might backfire.
The fans are not fooled by this move. I think die hards see that this isnt such a bad move, because Joe really lost the team to an extent. Yes he handles the stars well, but he hasnt won with them. Mussina Giambi etc have not one championships.
I like Girardi, he really seems to know the game, when listening to him on the radio or in the YES booth. He also has a small track record. I dont appreciate Don mattingly because i didnt grow up with him, but what has he done that would really make me trust his decisons? A year in the minors? This is the YANKEES.

Please hire Girardi!
I don't want Donnie Baseball and another decade of cross-armed silence.

A shiny new manager who won't make at least one stupid decision every game would be the bestest Christmas gift ever.

i think this is a bad move..
if it impacts your ability to sign guys like Posada and Mo this is a stupid move.

Get used to it. No manager is perfect.

This is going to shake a TON of stuff up for the yankees...
Now that Torre is gone...
A-rod circus has yet to unfold...
Posada and Mo await new contracts
Whos the new manager?
How will the young guns do next year in their first full season?
Abreu? Does Melky start next season?
How will they rebuild the pen if they let Viz go?
this is definitely active offseason for the yankees...

I love how some of you think Torre has evolved from one of the best manager's in the game to a bumbling fool.
The main problem is with your team and GM and has been since 2002.
You should feel lucky you even made the playoffs this year.

Exactly. We've been trotting out a rag tag rotation since 2004.

Everyone who thinks it is such a slap in the face. Understand that 3.5 mil is the highest any other manager is paid. Also remember that Mike Mussina took a 50% pay cut last season. They set Joe up and he took the bait, he made it about money.

im shocked for a few reasons
first reality hits that he is gone
second, in this, joe looks like the bad guy....he is making it look like its bout the money.....maybe he couldve tried to make the 2nd year guaranteed or something....but by just flat turning it down, he is making it seem like its all bout the money
3rd, this has reprecussions, b/c retaining Arod, Mo, and Jorge is gonna be 10X as harder now

Not if they hire Girardi. I truly believe if the Yanks insert him, players will want to be with this organization.

Does this mean the Yankees will actually go through rebuilding?
