Cano - our new cleanup hitter?

What is everybody's thoughts about this? Now that Arod is presumably gone, who should be our cleanup hitter?
I vote Cano - he was terrific last year but I truly believe he is going to have a breakout year in 2008 and hit 25-30 HR. His patience improved a ton in the second half.
Moving Cano from 2B to 3B and making him our cleanup hitter - should be a very interesting offseason if this happens.

yea, the "internal" scenario is to make Cano into 3rd, get Betmit into shape and make him the 2b IMO

Why make it so complicated? If the FO thinks that Betemit is an everyday player, he should play 3B and we keep Cano at 2B.
But does the FO consider Betemit an everyday player? That's the big question...

i think Cano has the better arm, but im not sure bout that, can some1 back me up on that?
i think betemit can be a everyday player, but he needs to slim down

Betemit has a very slick glove at 3B. His glove isn't a question at that position, his bat is.

I think were gonna go after Lowell. If not him, its gonna be someone else. I highly doubt Betemit is our starting second or third baseman come opening day.

Yeah, I like Betemit as a utility guy, but I don't see how the Yankees can go in with Betemit replacing AROD and say they are going to compete for a championship like always.

I like the idea of moving Cano to 3B. I think getting a guy like Iguchi for 2B would be ideal. He probably isn't looking for a lot of money or a lot of years and he has championship experience. He also will not be a type-A free agent so we keep our picks. I think our best bet for getting some additional right handed power would be to look at options at 1B. -Jitpal

Betemit's nothing to write home about offensively, but he might work if there's nothing out there that's better.
(Mike Lowell is a terrible idea, by the way. I bet he'd put up a .780 OPS his first year, and numbers that go downhill from there. Fenway Park was the big factor in his good season.)

I wouldn't mind buying low on an Eric Chavez or even Scott Rolen since they are coming off injuries.

Cano came through the minors as a SS but was moved because of Jeter obviously. Even then, he had a great arm FOR a shortstop, so there is no doubt he can handle 3B. He was going to move to 3B because we got ARod, so he moved to 2B instead to replace Soriano.
