Joe Torre to be hired by the Dodgers, Donnie to join him

The Los Angeles Dodgers have decided to fire manager Grady Little and replace him with former Yankees manager Joe Torre, The Journal News has learned.
Torre, 67, could be named manager as soon as tomorrow, according to two sources close to the situation. Don Mattingly is expected to accompany Torre to Los Angeles as his bench coach. Torre is also interested in hiring Kevin Long, his hitting coach with the Yankees.
A Brooklyn native, Torre rooted for the Dodgers as a child.
The Dodgers were 82-80 this season under Little and were beset by clubhouse unrest. Owner Frank McCourt, a Boston native, decided Torre is best suited to quell that situation.
Torre turned down a one-year offer to remain as manager of the Yankees on Oct. 18. He had been with the Yankees 12 seasons, winning four World Series championships.
Congrats to Joe!!!! Hopefully he leads them to the playoffs.
And poor Scott Proctor...

Congrats to him but I'm sorta still pissed about losing Mattingly. Hopefully he returns in the future. I hope we play interleague with the Dodgers next year.

wow, so mattingly follows joe to LA? geez.... good luck joe and matt, I think that is a good hire by LA.... I really can't hate on the dogers, I think they will be good...

Letterman just asked him about it and he said that the Dodgers already had a manager and he wouldn't want to knock on someone's door. Also he said there were things reported that weren't correct in the NY papers. Lastly he cryptically said he didn't have any news but then added a yet under his breath. -Jitpal

I think the Proctor joke you guys just made sums up the whole situation. That's reason I've wanted Torre out for 3 years now. While he's a great people person, thats all he is. A great manager of people and personalities. He doesnt make good baseball decisions; especially pitching decisions. He has no idea how to manage his bullpen.

no such thing as managing a bullpen, either you have it or you dont. You cant hide bad pitching over the course of 162games.

I don't really blame Joe for doing what he needs to do, but he should be getting ripped for talking to a team that has a manager in place. If we have to hear about how he was the class of the organization, that would seem to be a full not part time job.

It's official, as per ESPNews. Hopefully the Dodgers come to Yankee Stadium soon so he can get the ovation he deserves. We went to Los Angeles a few years ago, it's about time the Dodgers come here.
