I don't know if anyone just watched sportscenter, but Buster Olney said there was a possible deal of melky and hughes for Jake Peavy. Would you do it?

If somehow, and i know this is a realllll stretch, but if we could snag him for like kennedy and horne and maybe one other good pitching prospect then obviously we do it. haha idk i just have this thing about giving up melky and hughes especially hughes though because melky could be replaced this year with the extensive market of CF's. He would be our counterpart to Beckett too. Then again we can hope he doesn't re-sign with the padres because he will be a FA next year. I say we don't give up too many of our draft picks this year and just purge our picks next year because of all the talent on the market that we'll most likely have to give them up for if we sign them haha.

yea, i don't believe that, Hughes IMO can be better than peavy in a few years, if not sooner. peavy may throw a tad bit harder but hughes has like 3 pitches he can throw for strikes at any time.. No thanks..

Guys Peavy is a strikeout pitcher, that will translate with the transition to the AL. I think Hughes does in fact have a higher ceiling but Peavy would still be your 20 game winner and #1 starter.

I wouldn't do it. Hughes is a gamer and too young to lose. Maybe they're interested in a Wang-Melky package though...

Why settle for Peavy when we could build upon a package of Melky and Hughes to make an offer for Santana?

We are talking about the same Jake Peavy, right? The 26 year old, one of the best sliders in baseball, ERA under 3 Jake Peavy, right? I understand the desire to reach for Santana but there are reports coming out that Santana may not actually be available anymore because if Silva leaves, Boof Bosner would be their #1 pitcher. So, if that's the case, wouldn't it make sense to pick up your own Josh Beckett? If they offer the Sox Peavy for Buchholz and Ellsbury, I'd balk just like you guys at his soon to be FA but if I could negotiate a long term deal for him, I'd really have to think hard about saying no. mahalo

He is one of the top, if not the top pitching prospect in baseball, so doesn't that put him on another level? huh?

I'm not ready to say he has an inability to stay healthy. He pulled his hamstring in the 7th inning of a no-hitter. Most people, including myself, believe he was just pressing and didn't mind his footing properly and pulled it. The ankle sprain was during recovery when he was jogging in the outfield, a complete freak injury. There were concerns of his shoulder a long time ago so they got him away from relying on that slider so it wouldn't strain that shoulder. Since they did that, he hasn't had the slightest issue. 3 completely unrelated injuries. I think it was just a fluke and he will be fine next year. -Jitpal

Cashman didn't say he was untouchable he just said that there were different levels of untouchables and that some were more untouchable than others. I would not trade him for Miguel Cabrera or Johan Santana but that's just me. I would deal him in a package that got us Johan Santana and more though. -Jitpal
