The latest on Rivera
Mariano Rivera-R-Yankees Nov. 13 - 11:13 am et
According to the New York Times, the Yankees have increased their offer to Mariano Rivera to $45 million over three seasons.
Billy Wagner's $10.75 million average is the currently the highest among closers, so it's a huge offer for the 38-year-old Rivera. If his previous statements about the Yankees being his first choice are accurate, then he figures to follow Jorge Posada by re-signing relatively quickly.

But a three-year, $45 million offer is so far unacceptable to the Rivera camp, which is said to be seeking $50 million for the closer's last long-term contract. Rivera turns 38 later this month, and he'd be 41 in the final year of his deal.
According to a person familiar with the contract discussions, Rivera is not seeking a fourth year, but a three-year deal worth north of $16 million annually. And for what Rivera brings to the table, it could be argued that he settled below market value in previous contracts.

Thats what he's saying to Hank about the Torre situation right here.
They're two completely different situations. They are grown men who are part of a business, Mo should be able to realize that I would think. Rivera isn't worth $18 million. He's probably not even worth $15 million but I'll give that to him for 3 years.

I saw a report that Mo got a record offer from NY. However, when I see the numbers.. for 45 million I dont see anything out of the ordinary. I think he certainly deserves that and it would be in NY best interest to give him that over 3 years. Anyway, congrats guys.. he is a helluva player!
Cheers.

3 for 45 mil is 4.75 mil more a year than the two highest paid closers in the game, Wagner and Hoffman. I love Mo but if he is going to walk over a million bucks a year then that will be his legacy, the Yankees will always be the Yankees. It isn't like someone else is offering that he just wants the Yankees to give it to him.
