AROD Bronx Return?

Post#1 » by PR07 » Wed Nov 14, 2007 3:27 pm

The Yankees want Alex Rodriguez back in pinstripes. Sources say the two sides are talking - but the Yanks don't want agent Scott Boras involved in the negotiations.
Alex Rodriguez may be headed back to the Bronx after all -- but on the Yankees' terms.

Despite all of the back-and-forth posturing between the Yankees and A-Rod' camp, the Daily News learned today that the two sides have been discussing a deal for the past few days to keep the two-time MVP in pinstripes, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
The biggest catch? The Yankees don't want agent Scott Boras involved in the negotiations.

A high-ranking Yankees source told the Daily News that the team is willing to bring Rodriguez back on a below-market contract, one that would make up for the $21 million subsidy from the Rangers that the Yanks lost when A-Rod opted out of the final three years of his contract.
In addition, the Yankees don't want to deal with Boras, who has been Rodriguez's agent since the slugger was 16 years old.
"We will not negotiate with Scott Boras," a Yankees source said. "He cannot be in the room."
The Yankees are also aware that Boras could convince Rodriguez to stop the talks. "We realize it could be a trap to get us back in the negotiations," said one Yankee official. "But we don't think that's the case."
Rodriguez apparently approached the Yankees through a third-party intermediary. "He went to them," said the source.
As the Daily News reported today, A-Rod will have to have person-to-person talks with the Steinbrenner brothers -- Hank and Hal -- before a deal can be sealed.

"Alex is going to be back with the Yankees," the source said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not been made public. "The Yankees don't have a choice. How are they going to compete without Alex? They need him back."

A second Yankees source said that the team believes A-Rod is trying to restore his image, which has taken a beating since Boras announced the opt-out during Game 4 of the World Series.
By taking a contract below market value, Rodriguez would be showing fans that it wasn't all about getting the most money, and that he truly wants to finish his career in pinstripes.

"Alex likes to be the center of the universe," the source said. "He wants to be a part of the Stadium going down and the opening of the new one. It's not about money. It's about his face being everywhere. This is the only stage that can guarantee that."
"Most of this is about Alex trying to salvage his image," said another source close to the negotiations. "He's upset over the way this whole thing has played out and the way he's being portrayed now, because of Boras."

Who cares, I don't want him back, he made his bed, let him sleep in it. I'll find it hard ever to root for Arod if he ever puts on the pinstripes again.

Boras is a jerk and so is A-rod... Boras is the same guy that went to the braves and said his client Andrew jones is looking for no less than 18-19 mil per year.. and this is the same andrew jones that had one of the worst years in his career batting around .227 LOL..... the braves GM said, he wouldn't even respond to such foolishness... needless to say, Jones will never be a brave again... boras is a fool..

Boras isn't a fool he is a master negotiator, a flat out prick might be a better word.

I think I'm going to hire him to negotiate my next year's salary at work.

If I were the Yankees, I would decline...

You'll go through the same circus act 2 years from now, instead then it will be "I did this for the Yankees and now pay up" business.

If AROD is willing to play at a discount or even a reasonable contract, I'd take him back. I don't want to give up the farm for Cabrera, and I don't want to overpay for Mike Lowell. He's the best player in baseball, and he needs to be with the best franchise in all of baseball. Whether this happens remains to be seen....

if im the yankees, i try to convince arod to accept arbitration while they work out a long term deal. if he accepts it turn around and trade him since he wont have a no trade clause.

yes i know this is far fetched but Arod did disrespect the yankees organization by not even attempting to work out a deal before opting out. . not that i wanna trade for cabrera and give away players, or give lowell a 4yr deal. so i would be willing to sign arod, if he agrees to a LIMITED NO TRADE clause. giving the yankees the option to trade him

I'd rather lose without Arod than win with him. I'm tired of the Arod circus. That being said, I'd rather win without Arod than win with him, too.

Supposedly the deal is 10/275 for Arod. Which isn't horrible(I can't believe I just said that). I'd take him back. Looking at it we need a 3B and we need right handed power. Arod gives us that. If we take the drama that has happened or could potentially happen out of the equation it makes too much sense to get him. That said, the man is going to be booed to high heavens on opening day and probably during spring training as well. Experiencing how fragile his psyche is, I wonder if he can handle that, if he can't we are in for 2006 rather than 2005 or 2007. If Arod does come back I hope he holds a press conference and basically apologizes to the organization from the owners, to the team and the fans. -Jitpal

Oh God go read the headline at ESPN.com right now.

I'd be happy to have him back, though.

I wouldn't be against him returning, although I completely understand why someone like cmaff would be against it. We need him, lets all just face that reality. And if we can get him at a decent price (under $30 mil per) then why not? There may be some backlash, but the franchise can deal with that as long as they do a good job of pinning the entire mess on Boras.

If Arod was to come back, and the the Yankees let Arod and Boras set the market price instead of the Yankees themselves setting the market price - then they've really screwed the pooch here. The Yankees have all the leverage here and they are going to let Arod dictate his price? I'm starting to lose faith in Cashman and company if this is true...

10 years? Weren't the Yankees not budging on 5 years? The Yankee brass are losers who caved in to the pressure. Where is that killee mentality that we used to have? Pathetic. Screw A-Rod. He's old crawling back here because he can't get an offer. Offer him a 5 year, $50 million deal and tell him to STFU or take it. Yeah, it's very low, but no choke artist deserves more.

The original offer was 5 years added to the 3 left, so it was 8 years. It's basically the same offer with two more years.

But it's not.

They offered 5 years, $150 million as an extension so if you at it this way, they are offering 7 years, $275 million as an extension now.
