He's supposedly the best lefty FA available, and we need one in our bullpen.

If Mahay is the "catch" to improve our bullpen we have some serious issues. I hope he doesn't command some insane deal like 3/18 or something but I have a feeling he will. -Jitpal

Last I heard Cordero wanted 4/44 and the ability to close. So for us it would have to be 4/50 or something. Plus the first round pick because of his type-A status. That is a lot. I wanted him too but that is too much. He might even want that 5th year to be able to close after Mo's deal is done.

I think we are better off grabbing Kerry Wood and David Riske. Try to deal for Damaseo Marte. I think we could get him for Tyler Clipped and change. Otherwise bring back Villone. Then throw all of our young guys like Bruney, Britton, Edwar, Ohlendorf, Veras, Sanchez and whoever else and bring up the best ones. Might not be as glamourous but I think it would be just as effective as just adding Cordero. Plus less investment and less risk. -Jitpal

Which teams had the best bullpen? Would perhaps be a good reflection of whether overpaying for "proven" relievers equates to a good pen.

The best bullpens are usually put together by players from within an organization, or guys that fly under the radar. Relief pitchers vary year by year, they can be hit or miss. That is why these large contracts for relievers usually blow up in a team's face. The Indians bullpen from this past season is a perfect example, put together by a bunch of cheap under the radar young guys.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too.
