ANDY PETTITTE IS BACK B1TCHES!
Posted: Mon Dec 3, 2007 1:28 pm
Andy Pettitte, who contemplated retirement this winter, has told his good friends, a few former Astros teammates and some current Yankees teammates that he will return to the Bronx for the 2008 season.
Through people close to Pettitte, the Chronicle has learned that the veteran lefthander has told family members and teammates that he has decided to return to the Yankees in 2008.
That wait is over, and the Yankees have been informed of the decision by Pettitte

I think this helps the trade for Santana argument because I'm sure Andy didn't come back to mentor, he came back to win 1 for the thumb.

Pull Hughes off the table now. Tell Minnesota IPK, Cabrera, Jackson/Tabata and another prospect is as high as we go.

I remember when the Yankees pulled out of the Randy Johnson discussions because ARI was asking too much then RJ basically told them "its Yankees or no one" & ARI was forced to accept a much cheaper offer. I doubt it happens now though because Santana actually likes players on the Red Sox whereas Randy didn't really like Curt at the time.

If they want to take that garbage offer from Boston, let them. There's nothing we can do. I'm sick of them asking for our great prospects and accepting lesser players from other teams.

Good stuff Andy. Classy guy. Stepped in at the right time. Twins just lost a little leverage. -Jitpal

Who are you Dikembe Mutumbo? We could turn all our games into 6 innings circa 1996 as well as groom Joba to be Mariano's replacement....if one of our starters gets hurt (which they will), Joba could slide into the rotation. We're not going to have a 6 man rotation and Ian Kennedy does not deserve to start the season in AAA.

i agree with 34 celtic. as good as joba is, i love the fact that innings 7-9 are a lock.

If Joba isn't in the rotation, it's a 6 inning game for the OTHER team. Moose and Igawa will be horrible and will unnecessarily tax our bullpen. Joba can be a legit ace, possibly better than Hughes. You don't throw 200 inning of that away in order to save the end of the game. Joe Borowski led the AL in saves with a 5 ERA for the team that almost went to the WS. Do you know why they got by? Because of their two cy young candidate aces. You don't have to win the 8th and 9th inning of games if you don't win inning 1-7 first.

Agreed, it's a waste not to have Joba start especially since we still have Rivera as a closer. It's difficult to find starting pitching, so why waste a guy?
Great to hear Andy's back. Best news I've heard all day.

I don't know where Igawa fits in when you go Wang, Pettitte, Hughes, Mussina, Kennedy....but thats just me. If you think Joba is coming out as a starter throwing 98 you're nuts...94-95 is more realistic.

igawa fits perfectly in a deal of him and clip for street.
oh and as for the debate of joba being in the rotation or as the setup guy...um thats simple, he's going to be in the rotation end of discussion. and with that trade i listed it removes the doubt of who will setup for us. besides what's more important, a legit ace or a setup guy or let me put it this way. would you rather have 200 innings of dominance or about 70 innings of dominance a year for his future?? i think we all know that answer.

Am I nuts? I guess everybody who read their radar guns must've been nuts all year when Joba was hitting 97 and 98 in the 7th inning of games last season.
Igawa fits in because Moose is an injury concern and Hughes/Kennedy aren't ready for 200+ inning workloads. And that isn't counting any possible injuries to Wang who usually finds some time on the DL and Pettitte, who is only getting older.

Joba may hit 97-98 occasionally, but he certainly doesn't sit there. I was at his start at Trenton, and he didn't hit the high 90s very often, just rarely.

i dont think joba can gas 96+ over 7 innings id expect him to be around 94/95 tho. id love to have joba outta teh bullpen. which is why i was hopin we could get santana with out giving up hughes... and try to use joba out the pen again
Posted: Mon Dec 3, 2007 10:13 pm
so what if he sits at 95, he knows and we all know that whenever he wants in the game he can dial it up to the high 90s possibly 100s so that's not really a concern for me[/b]

So we're going to be throwing 5 inning pitchers out there again? How do we scrounge 4 innings from the bullpen? Thats where you go to Joba, and don't give me this 6 man rotation bull*** because we're not going with a 6 man rotation.
