Yankees to look at A's Haren

The offer of Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera and a mid-level minor-league prospect had been on the table since late last week, but the Twins decided not to move on it just yet, waiting to see what other offers would present themselves in the coming days.
Monday night, a Yankees source told the Daily News that the Santana negotiations were over.
According to a second source, the Yankees now plan to turn their attention toward Oakland starter Dan Haren, who is currently being shopped. Although the righthander, 27, isn't as proven as Santana, 28, he is more attractive in a financial sense, as he is set to make $4 million in 2008 and $5.5 million in 2009 with a 2010 option for $6.75 million.
Oakland GM Billy Beane is said to be looking for a package of four players in exchange for Haren, with Hughes and Cabrera once again the likely centerpieces if the Yankees are to be serious players.

Is Hughes worth including in a deal for Haren a right handed pitcher?

No Hughes can be just as good, if not better then haren next season at 7 years younger.

Nope Dont trade Hughes at all. if we can work a deal with Ian Kennedy as the center piece im okay with trading him for Haren or another top pitcher

I don't believe Hughes is worth dealing for the left handed Santana, let alone for Dan Haren. I would be very pissed off if the same package (hughes, melky, ?) is offered for Haren.
I'd rather go to the NL and try to get a pitcher. I'd rather go after Peavy then Haren anyday, even though he pitches in the NL.
Either trade they make, i certainly wouldn't give up Hughes.

LOL Hughes for Haren? GTFO of her Billy Beane.

This is probably a waste of time. Haren's only on the market so far as Beane can get good value for him. I'd be shocked if he didn't demand Hughes, and wouldn't be surprised if he had the same demand the Twins allegedly had for Santana--Hughes and Kennedy.

yankees seem desperate.. If santana goes to the sox, then good. I am willing to roll the dice with Hughes, joba, and kennedy along with andy and wang. that is not a bad staff...
Santanna and beckett will be a nice 1-2 punch, but we have beaten better bedfore.....
If jon lester and some prospects is all it will take to get johan, then all the twins were looking to do is fleece the yankees. Lester is not ace material, while hughes is... I can't believe how teams take so little from others, while asking the world from the yankees...

I read that too. Don't remember where. I would do Kennedy, Horne and B-level for Haren but I don't think that gets it done. I wonder though, what would need to be given for Harden? I know he is injured a lot, but that might mean he is a cheaper and when he is healthy he is an ace. Maybe we can fix his constant injury issues. I remember reading a while back that they had interest in Igawa, maybe he can be part of the deal for Harden. -Jitpal

I assume that was before he pitched for the Yankees last year before teams were considering buying out his Japanese team contract.

No this was an article that came out I believe in September or so. Something about a cheap 4 million per year starter. -Jitpal

The Boston Herald reports that the A's and Diamondbacks have had constructive talks about a deal which would send Dan Haren to Arizona and Conor Jackson and Carlos Gonzalez along with two more players to Oakland.
The A's wouldn't get the center fielder they want, but a package fronted by Jackson and Gonzalez would be very good. Jackson and Daric Barton would be paired as a first base/DH combination in Oakland, while Gonzalez could step into an outfield corner in 2009. If the Diamondbacks trade Jackson, they could then re-sign Tony Clark to play first base.

You guys better get moving. mahalo

I find this hard to believe...
All this posturing for Haren telling the mets they arent even interested in guys like Gomez and Fmart that now they are willing to trade for a projected DH and first baseman?
No pitching in return? This is not Billy Beane baseball.. I would be mildly shocked if this went through.

I'd rather have Ben Sheets for what it will cost.
