this has to be the best and funniest Quote by hank so far

"A deadline is a deadline. It was pretty much done as of this morning," Yankees senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner said. "He's a fine pitcher, but there's a lot of things that go into this. This isn't fantasy baseball."

He's still an idiot. An idiot who has ruined pretty much all our leverage in these negotiations and made the job to acquire Santana harder than it already is.

Yea and idiot that didn't lose any leverage. If you looked at Maddens last article saying the twins said ok to another lesser prospect, who lost leverage? Please all you have been doing is complaining about the yanks.

i think what cmaff was trying to say was he ruined our leverage for any other future trade, now that other teams see that we were willing to part with hughes he's going to be the centerpiece of whatever trade we try to do.

hank needs a PR guy

yes, our leverage has been hurt for future trades b/c all teams know now that the yanks will put phil on the table

No, that's not what I meant. Hank put a faux deadline in place which we clearly have no intention of abiding by. Furthermore, those tampering charges that reportedly the Twins have levied at us certainly aren't helping.

As Kandi says, he really needs a PR guy... or for him to just shut his mouth.

I think you may be underestimating Cashman, and overestimating what Hank's role is. As far as tampering and all that he just apologizes and says he didn't know he is new at this.

By putting Hughes on the table he made it harder for the Twins to deal Santana. They passed on a deal for Hughes and Cabrera, they have to get that much for Santana now to deal him, or look like they blew it. The Sox are firm in not including Buccholz, Ellsbury, and Lester in a deal together and without that they can't really put together an equal package and frankly they probably don't want to. As I have said he isn't a good fit for Fenway.

While Hank is out front it doesn't mean he has control of the decision making process. Cashman's control of the organization comes from his contract, George is crazy but he isn't stupid, he isn't going to give his wet behind the eyes son more power than he gave himself.

I think Hank is playing a role. Cashman is the one who likes deadlines on negotiations, George is the one who folds and gives away his own money.

I liked ow Hank played this one, The Twins and Sox were trying to drive the price up for the Yanks cause they knew we were dessperate to make that trade, BUT once Pettite anounced his comeback everything changed, Hank knew this hence the deadline. Imo Hank gave us the leverage back, well Pettite gave us some leverage back, the Twins tried to bluff the Yanks with asking for medical records from Lester, to see if The yanks fell for it, but guess what.. it didnt happened, just like many people had said, the Sox were never serious, now the Twins are trying to include the Mets and Angels, they know they let the best offer slip away, they are going to have to keep Johan now or trade him for a lesser offer.... Great job by smith there.. i wonder how Twins fans feel now??
