Inge Expresses Anger Over Cabrera Trade
29th January, 2008 - 9:21 am
ESPN - Detroit third baseman Brandon Inge is angry that the Tigers traded for Miguel Cabrera, according to the Associated Press.

He asked the Tigers to trade him following the acquisition of Cabrera, but a deal was never made and doesn't seem to be in the future.

"They're still trying to trade me, but I need to get ready for the possibility that I'm going to spring training with the Tigers," Inge told the AP Monday. "People have said or written, 'Take your $6 million and be happy sitting on the bench.' But money doesn't make me happy - playing baseball does."

Gotta love that comment. Can he play 1B or the OF?

He strikes out a bit too much for my liking but depending upon what Detroit would ask for in return he might be an interesting risk.

Blech. He was awful last year and even at his best he was no more than a mediocre third baseman. While i'm not expecting a hell of a lot of production from Damon in Left or anyone in the 1B logjam I think Inge would be even worse. I'm betting anyone that wanted him would just have to eat most of his salary.

I think this guy would be a super pick up for the Yanks and would be a sure upgrade over Betemit. He came up as a C, and plays 3b so I assume he is athletic enough to learn 1B and the OF.

Defensively, no. Offensively, yes, assuming Giambi can stay healthy for five seconds. And i'd much, much rather give Betemit or Duncan a shot than acquire Inge.

Inge is getting paid $19 million over the next three years, by the way. Just not worth it when his best asset is his defense at third. I think we have this guy there already. Alan Rodrigo or something like that.
