Fixed. :)

Plus, you know it's going to lead to somebody printing an unintentionally hilarious headline if and when Wang and Colon face each other in a pitching matchup.

I still would have rather given him $1 million to see what he can do....

^ Agreed. I don't know what he has left in the tank, but an offseason and a fresh start can do wonders for any pitcher, let alone a former Cy Young winner. I know his velocity has decreased but there's a chance he can still get it together. He wouldn't have fit in here for opening day because of our surplus of starting pitchers, but as an insurance policy he's not a bad gamble.

Ruptured Colon

will be the headline after he gets rocked by the Yankees.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'd feel more comfortable having a guy who has done it before in a reserve role as a 7th starter in case we get hit with a rash of injuries ala the beginning of last season - when we were forced to cycle never was mediocre guys like Karstens and Rasner into the rotation.

I would prefer Horne to Karstens and Rasner as well but come on man. I think depending upon 3 rookies is enough. Colon certainly would have been worth the risk.

It's about talent, not age. Give me the 25 year old rookie in Horne over the washed up veterain in Colon. We don't need a veteran presence on this club, we have more than enough old guys.

We do need guys who have proven they can win. Until they have proven otherwise we already have 3 question marks in our rotation already. I am damned excited about those young guys but come on man. Whats so horrible about signing a former Cy young award winner to a cheap low risk high reward deal? I like this youth movement as much as anybody but some people are going a little crazy with it.

Haven't we gone the route of "track record" and "past cy young winner" and "veteran" the past 5 years? Kevin Brown? Randy Johnson? Roger Clemens? Give me the talented, hungry guys...whether they're 21 or 41.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Colon recently pitched in front of several major league scouts and most all of them walked away unimpressed. Supposedly he never topped the mid 80's on any of his pitches. Sure it could be that he's out of shape but you have to wonder how big to nugget head is right now.

Freddy Garcia is also visiting with the Red Sox... looks like theyre trying to get all the FA pitchers off the market now...

If i was hte yankees id sign Garcia to a contract similar to what the sox gave colon... garcia is a low risk, high reward pitcher IMO

Isn't there a difference between expensive again former Cy Young award winners and Bartolo Colon?

Yes, he's just an inexpensive, aging former Cy Young award winner. An 85 mph fastball is still 85 mph, whether the guy makes $2 million or $15 million.

We should be thrilled to see Colon in Fenway, because that would mean 1 or 2 guys in the rotation got hurt and there is no other viable option. Thats the only way he gets innings..he is garbage.

What, that Colon's Cy Young should have went to Santana?

Look, teams sign these pet reclamation projects all the time, and fans start dreaming up these big potential comeback scenarios with the player. Even notice how in reality these things almost never pan out?

I'd much rather give the available spot starts to someone like Alan Horne, who'll be trying to earn himself a rotation spot in 2009. Or hell, even Igawa, who's trying to prove he's not a giant waste of money. We have enough Carl Pavanos around as is.
