vasquez is a classic example of why you don't give up on young arms. I guess damon's Slam off of him in the playoffs was the last straw for yankee fans but that was a big series, game 7 and he was brought in a relief situation. But the yankees were not patient enough, this kid had a great arm and a lot of potential and he was young. And with classic yankee fan impatience we wanted him gone. I did not want to trade the kid, not for kevin brown who was a grouchy, washed up jerk.... So now, no brown who was a bust and vaz looks like a fine pitcher.. Imagine him in our rotation in stead of mussina along with kennedy, hughes, pettite and wang.. just a thought..

We traded him for Randy Johnson, it was a no-brainer. Vazquez was solid for us, but we didn't trade him because we hated him or NY was impatient, we traded him because we had the chance to get a guy who was coming off of a season with a 2.60 ERA and 300 strikeouts. Plus its not like we traded Vazquez then he jumped into superstardom, his ERA was 4.5 in AZ and nearly 5 his first season in CHI.

I was just thinking the same thing. In fact, I was coming here to say the same thing. Home Run Javy was average in his first year here, but he would probably be our best pitcher right now. He's a horse too.
