Our bullpen

Post#1 » by JigglyPuff » Mon Jun 2, 2008 1:13 am

I think our bullpen is the worst in the majors right now and the worst in a very longtime for the Yankees. I mean Farnsworth-Hawkins-Ohlendorf is a three headed monster full of suck and everyone else by Mo is unproven. We really need to release Hawkins and send down Ross and have Farnsworth be the mop-up man. I'd rather we bring up some kids to the pen than see the same old tired routine of Farnsworth and Hawkins.

Considering that we have two relievers whos ERAs are about 0.5, it is hard to call it one of the worst in the majors. We easily have the best closer, but the 7th/8th innings are in question. All of major league pitching is watered down at this point in baseball, few teams have a good 5 man rotation or a good 6-7 man bullpen. Most teams would take a good closer, good lefty, and one more good reliever and call it a day. We may not trust Farnsworth at all, but you can't call him one of the worst in the game either. And Ohlendorf has been okay, but we have used him incorrectly as our "long man" because we haven't brought up anybody else to eat those innings. If he is used properly as a middle reliever like the rest of them, I think he can be a very solid reliever. Hawkins sucks though.

Hopefully Cox and Robertson can step in immediately in the coming weeks or months, but we have to remember they are only rookies.

with Ian in the minors phil on the DL and Joba becoming a starter the best thing we have for a reliever is Farnsworth.

Veras is a keeper. pitched a great 8th inning yesterday

Farnsworth and Hawkins have to go, like now... Melancon is ready to be promoted to AAA and Robertson is ready for his shot at the majors.

JB Cox = Jeff Nelson?

Yeah, I stick by my belief that the Yanks are better off letting their farm depth fill in the bullpen rather than chasing after veterans again. Doing the latter is how you end up with guys like Farnsworth.
