Cano has been nothing short of a disgrace so far, .228 avg? seriously?.273 OBP? just pathetic, kinda ironic this happens AFTER he gets his big contract
so, is he the tim thomas of mlb, in that he'll only try when its contract year?

He did the same thing last year in the first half, I hate when people chalk it up to not trying and caring, thats a harsh assumption against somebody. Plus Tim Thomas NEVER reached expectations, Cano has exceeded expectations over the past 2-3 years. Obviously he isn't hitting much this year, but who hasn't had a terrible 2 or 3 months?
EDIT:
And why no mention about the fact that he is playing absolutely amazing and nearly flawless in the field? You mean to tell me once he signed his contract he said to himself "okay I'll try in the field but never at the plate anymore."

I think the loss of Larry Bowa has hurt him quite a bit as far as hitting goes. He's young though, and he's just going to have to keep trying to work through it.

last time he was in the slump, he had the motivation of getting his money
now, whats he to lose if he doesnt break out, he already got the $$ in the bank

PacersRule is right and I said as soon as we lost Bowa that Cano would suffer because of it. He needed Bowa to light a fire under his ass and keep him from getting lazy. Now, based on news reports, it seems like Cano only listens to his dad.

Agreed but add Tony Pena as well. Those losses have really been underestimated for both Melky and Robbie.
