He's our second best reliever after Mo.
Mo - 9th (of course)
Marte - 8th
Farnsworth - 7th
Veras, Ramirez, Robertson - middle relievers.
That's a deep bullpen.

That bullpen is by far the best we have had since the Mo/Nelson/Stanton/Mendoza bullpen.
And don't forget Bruney will be back soon, he was pitching very well before he hurt is foot.

Obviously Marte's spot is going to come at the expense of Hawkins. Because of that, I don't really see where Bruney is going to slot in unless we want to ditch Giese. Personally, I like having a long reliever in the pen because of our tenuous starting pitching at the 4 and 5 right now. I say give Bruney the year to recover unless the wheels come off the cart for Edwar or Robertson.
As to the actual question of the thread, I think Marte and Farnsworth will alternate 8th inning duties depending on the matchups. Marte is definitely better but Girardi will be careful not to screw up Farnsworth's psyche by taking him out of his rhythm. He needs to know the organization has confidence in him to be effective.

I just hope Girardi doesn't see him as just a LOOGY because he can get out righties too. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Marte become set up man next year with Farnzys contract expiring after this season, and I doubt the Yanks are going to bring him back so yeah... It's possible, for 09
