Why not call up Shelly Duncan?

Post#1 » by Knicksfan20 » Thu May 28, 2009 9:35 pm

I think its time to get some bullpen help, Nick swisher/Matsui need to go iMO, i no Matsui brings in revenue but he is getting way old, and is just a DH now, and he isnt even hitting, (2hr last night, big whoop)

Shelly is hitting like 372 with 9 homers in the miners this year, he is tearing it up, cant he play RF? i think i remember him playing a few games last year, He would add another big batt to the lineup, last season was a huge disapointment with him, his power compeltey disapeared, but right now, we are getting nothing out of those 2 outfielders.

And we need bullpen help, why not try to trade them for a reliever and bring up Shelly?

Shelly's a tweener. He's always hit well in the minors and sucked it up in the major leagues. I like the guy but I don't think he'll ever really be a contributor here. He just swings at too much for the scouting report not to catch up to him. He's also essentially a DH since he has no real position.

Matsui's contract is almost gone, just ride him out until his deal is up unless someone knocks you over with an offer. He'll put up moderate power numbers and a fair average in streaky fashion - ride him when he's hot and temper him with Posada at DH when he's not.

As far as Swisher he's not going anywhere anytime soon so you have to deal with it. The guy carried us in April and blew in May, let's give him more than 2 months before we kick him outta town.

im not talking about kicking him out, im talking about making traders to improve our **** bullpen. Both Matsui and Swisher have some value aroundt he league, why not trade them, let melky be the starter, gardner the backup, and call up Duncan or something?

He can't hit off-speed stuff.

And there isn't going to be a big market for either Matsui or Swisher.

shelly reminds me of that dude from major league movie...who crushes the fastball, but when the curveball comes, he swings and misses badly

Considering guys like Robertson and Melancon haven't been given fair shakes to even establish themselves as major parts of the pen, it's way too early to start trading for the usual lineup of mediocre relievers that play well and become trade bait midseason.

Swisher is still hitting .223/.364/.480 despite the massive slump and Matsui hasn't been useless either even if he's looked outright terrible on some at-bats. Duncan is unlikely to produce nearly as much as either.
