The Yankees Go To Atlanta *Series Thread*
Here's the Pitching Match ups for the 3 Game Series:
Game 1 Tuesday 7:10pm est
Wang (0-5 12.30 ERA)
Hanson (2-0 4.08 ERA)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Game 2 Wednesday 7:10pm est
Chamberlain (3-2 3.89 ERA)
Kawakami (4-6 4.42 ERA)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Game 3 Thursday 7:10pm est
Pettitte (7-3 4.26 ERA)
Lowe (7-5 4.09 ERA)
Things I'm hoping for this series:
- Yanks winning 2 out of 3 or Sweep
-Wang having a decent outing or a win
-Seeing more Bruney / Hughes appearances

Re: The Yankees Go To Atlanta *Series Thread*
wang imploded again. giving up two doubles, one to Mccann and one to old fart anderson.... geez we can never get that bum out...
And meanwhile the braves trot out a very average rookie they are tying to hype up and we can't hit that bum.. He is either too wild and we are too impatient....
down 3-0 to braves.. give me a break..

Getting shut out by the Braves.
Wang actually had a decent outing. If the yankees had a major league offense they could of gave wang his first win.
Too bad the offense is so bad it wouldnt even be acceptable in AA ball

if we don't win these next two games, we will be 7 games out. Boston is not losing to the nats.. they just put up 9 runs vs the nats , they are going to stomp the nats, and that is the difference between boston and the Yankees.. All boston does is hit and pitch effectively.. the yanks are a bunch of fragile, aging, up and down, overpaid check collectors... after the blue jays win, we will now be tied for second place, 5 games out.... How we let the blue jays back in the picture is beyond me...
We are not a good team.. we can address pitching all we want, but until we find a way to put 9 guys on the field that can consistently , hit, bunt, sacrafice, and convert with RISP, we won't beat boston... End of story... we won't even finish ahead of toronto.. tonight we got shut out by a sub .500 team that had a rookie pitcher who couldn't find the strike zone... Pathetic this team is...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9 GIDP's in 5 games.
Sickening. This team has no plate discipline.
Its like the only way they can win is getting Godly Performances from their Pitchers and hitting Homeruns.

dude is average. I live in Atlanta and have seen all of his starts... they are trying hard to hype this guy.. he has a aveage fastball, his curve is horrible it hangs and he lacks control.. this guy has 4th starter potential AT BEST....
He walked 5 guys tonight and got off the hook with the pitcher batting.... had he been in an AL park, he would have been toast..

You expect a guy to be dominant out of the gate? The fact that he hasn't had anything close to his best stuff and is still working on a 14 inning scoreless streak is one of many reasons people are excited about him. And Hanson got Swisher to ground out in a big spot and got every other batter out in your lineup, so who can say he would have been toast? Posada hopes to never see him again that's for sure.
But god forbid a guy making his 4th career start doesn't throw a perfect game. Clearly he has no future in the league.

FUNNY THING. I just called into the local station here in Atlanta, 680 the fan, and I said, I think the talk and expectations of this kid are too high, looking at his stuff. the radio host asked me how many runs has he given up in 14 innings, I said I wasn't sure, but I know he gave up no runs last night, and pretty much when you are not around the plate and wild, that can happen. with young guys, I don't look at numbers to start, heck clay buckholz for the red sox threw a no hitter in his first or second start was it? and he is in the minors last time I checked. I said at best this kid is a #3 or 4 starter.. he doesn't have electric stuff. His fastball he can't keep over the plate for a strike unless he throws it at 90 or 91, his curve is sloppy and hangs, he doesn't have much movement, you could tell with young power pitchers like joba, volquez, Fernandez in seattle, these guys stuff is just crazy. Great velocity and nasty moving breaking stuff...
The key with young guys is teams not having complete scouting on. Usually the next time a team sees them, it is a different story... I hope he pitches in NY when the braves come.. I really hope so.. he won't have ching ming wang batting with bases loaded, that is for sure...
So no, I don't expect a guy to be dominant, just calling what I see.. Question. Do you think his stuff is even close to phil hughes? I don't and believe me, I don't think Hughes is close to dominant. he has the stuff to be, but he isn't, and that is the truth.....

You say you have seen him pitch but say he doesn't have electric stuff? No movement?
Surely you realize how silly it is to expect a pitcher to have his best stuff going in his 4th career start against the Yankees of all teams. He had ZERO problems getting his pitches over in the minors and once he becomes more comfortable in the majors it'll be the same story. He's young, with nerves, and he doesn't want to get hit hard. There have been plenty of great pitchers who have started 10x worse than Hanson.
Hanson is as close to a sure thing as there is right now and in time you'll see.
BTW, someone made a thread on atlantafalcons.com message board laughing about your call this morning.
Even a Yankees disagreed with you.

Dude.. You can tell from day 1 if a pitcher has electric stuff. Day 1, you saw it in joba, volquez, beckett, burnett, the list goes on and on...... it doesn't take 4 starts to see if "STUFF" is there.. it is silly to think it takes any longer than 1 game..... Just like it doesn't take 4 looks to see if a woman is beautiful.. well maybe for you and your beer buddies at atlantafalcons.com
wow, there you go. I guess I need to change my mind......

Oh BTW: just got off the phone with a friend of mine. He is a diehard braves fan and season ticket holder.. He also called in and said he is not that impressed with hansen..
