POLL: Who should replace Wang?

Post#1 » by NickAndersonsBack25 » Mon Jul 6, 2009 11:36 pm

UPDATE - added an option to make a trade - probably too early for that though, thats why i didnt even think of it initially

split up the Phil-thies (PHIL Coke and Hughes)/take Hughes out of that dominate rule in the 8th, even though bruney isn't getting it done?

Try a young guy?

Give Ace the ball?

i think hughes is a future starter and has the best stuff, but we can't take him out of the bullpen yet. it was shaky until he was plugged in. the pen is huge.

no signing Pedro, he wouldnt even be ready yet.

we've already seen Claggett, and I'll pass on that.

Mitre isn't on the 40 man.

Too bad Kennedy was injured, he was getting into a zone.

i'd give Ace the ball to start wang's next start, but realize he's not stretched out so use Tomko and Robertson for long innings as well, and see who stretches out the best.

He needs time to stretch back out, but the answer is Hughes. He's a nice luxury to have in the pen, but he's just that: a luxury. And with Wang out, there's a clear need for him in the rotation, where he's potentially much more valuable. Even if he's no better than a back end starter while he's learning the majors, that's still going to be better than rolling out Mitre or Igawa or God forbid Tomko. Mo, Aceves, Coke, and Robertson will all still be dependable guys out of the pen; hopefully, Bruney will work things out and join that list. And it's time to give Melancon a fair shake in the bigs.

With Bruney pitching so badly the Yankees need Hughes now in the pen. He isn't a luxury anymore. He can help the Yankees in 3-4 games a week and right now should be the 7th-8th inning guy along with Coke. The Yanks need to keep that bridge to Mo that has made them so successful the past few weeks. starter to Aceves-Coke/Hughes-Mo. Hughes has been so good it makes no sense to weaken what has become a huge strength of the team.

I'd give the start to Mitre. He isn't on the 40 man, but according to Suzyn Waldman, the Yanks only have 38 guys on their 40 man so they wouldn't have to expose anyone to waivers. Give Mitre a shot, it is only one game (Thursday) and then they won't need a fifth starter for a couple of weeks.
