Dammit, Detroit just stole Washburn from the Yanks

Looks like we're going to plan B former Met Bannister. Now, the question is are the Yanks getting a pitcher to replace Mitre or Joba Chamberlain?

I don't think it had to do with money. The Mariners wanted either Jackson or Montero. Keep in mind, Washburn is a FA at the end of the season. So it was too rich for Cashman's blood.

Wow Jackson or Montero for Washburn? What a joke.

Why this infatuation with Washburn? He would've been a relatively expensive rental fifth starter (ignore the fluke ERA). Bannister is at least as good, younger, and cost controlled for a few more seasons. Bannister would be a better option if they landed him without giving up much.

It wasn't dollars. It was Austin Jackson in particular and prospects in general. The conversation started with Jackson but didn't stop their. Detroit didn't give Seattle anything close to what they demanded from the Yankees. .

It is obvious that other teams hold up the Yanks in potential trades. It is the price we pay for having a 200 million + payroll. I admire the yankees for not being taken to the cleaners.

We are discussing no small matter, but how we ought to live.

We have 4 legit starters. If you're looking for a team with 2 legit starters, you're thinking of the Red Sox.

Giving Montero would be a joke. Austin not as bad but def. not good. I am concerned with his strikeout rate...he's got a ways to go to be successful in the ML. I'm not as positive about him as I was last year. need to see improvement in that area.
