The Yanks got Hairston from Cincy for ML catcher Chase Weems. Hairston seems to be a very good utility player, can play really any position, infield or outfield. I know nothing about Weems (nykgeneralmanager?), but it seems like a deal that can't hurt us.
Not a pithcer, but he is an upgrade and it seems like it will signal the end of Cody Ransom.

Weems looked to be more of a prospect a couple of years ago when the position was our weakest, now it is arguably our strongest. He's kind of like Cervelli, probably even better defensively but he just isn't nearly as close to being major league ready and his bat is really really raw. He used to have a decent spot on the organizational depth chart, but guys like Montero and Romine have obviously become top prospects and even guys like Anson and Higashioka have surpassed him as fillers. I don't think he had a chance to reach the majors with the Yanks.

Sounds good, thanks for the report. Sounds like the Yanks improved themselves without giving up anything of value to them.

So Pete Abraham is reporting that tonight's game might be a one and done for Shelley, and that Cody Ransom might stick around despite Hairston's presence.
Girardi is out to piss me off, I swear.

I kind of wanted Heath Bell and out of the starting pitchers left, Bannister.
We picked a hell of a year to be cheap at the deadline.
