Yanks @ Mariners: Staying one step ahead

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Thu Aug 13, 2009 10:59 am

Taking two out of three from Toronto might make a Yankee fan feel comfortable if it weren't for the fact that they have a comfortable lead over the Boston Red Sox. How comfortable? They lost a game, while the Red Sox ate the Tigers alive.

Hence, it would be to their advantage to get that game back against the Mariners who are sending the 2-8 Ian Snell to the hill. CC Sabbathia goes for his 13th win. Yanks need to stay ahead before their re-match against the Sox in a week.

However, injuries are mounting for the Yanks: Jeter's foot, A-Rod's hand, and Rivera's arm were barking a little. So it's up to the reserves to come in and give the guys time to heal.

Sabbathia, Pettitte, Mitre....get ready to roll.

Terrific outing by C.C. Length and dominance. 8 IP, that will help later this series when Mitre and Gaudin are pitching...

That slider is back, and it is great to see..

Hidden within the romp, guys Brian Bruney has slowly but surely put together a couple of decent bullpen appearances. He's going to be very valuable to the Yanks as they send Mitre and Chaudin to the mound during this 4 game stretch.

Yanks will need Hideki Matsui's bat come playoff time. He makes that line up work in so many ways.

I guess he'll sit against the A's. I thought that was pretty interesting but the Yanks will go into Boston for a 3 game series. I'm guessing they'll find a way for mitre not to go into beantown.

Another scoreless inning by Bruney...and a rare full inning by Hughes...add up for a Yankee win.

Another day off for A-Rod. They should just sit him till Sunday. He is hobbling a little with the hip. Vs. Boston, I noticed he can't go first to third like he would with a healthy hip.

I love the fact the Yanks are learning to win these tight games. It's an excellent test for the inevitable playoffs.

Tomorrow it's MITRE time! *mock cheer*

Yes, and 2 of those times came during very pivotal games. If they backfired on Girardi would you think they'd blame him or Cashman whispering in his ear?

Let's be open Gentlemen, Cashman runs the roost. He's the one telling Girardi when to start Joba. He's the one who called in Girardi and forced him to play Swisher over Melky (who made a pop up drop in RF) the last time in Fenway.

Rest assured this babying of Hughes is due to the fact the last 2 seasons he's been injury plagued and they don't want to lose his fragile self for the playoffs.

My problem with last night's performance is, hitters were finding their timing and looking for that fast ball. Cause the kid really only has 2 legit pitches.

I don't know karate but I know Crazy...and I read the tea leaves as they unravel. Yanks must be careful during this stretch because teams make adjustments and once they figure out something, it puts the pressure to unbearable levels.
