Yanks @ Red Sox: Enemy at the Gates

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Fri Aug 21, 2009 7:25 pm

The AL East could be decided in this series. I don't think the Yanks have to sweep or take two out of three from the Sawx. I think one win, decides the whole division but any one get the feeling this not the Yankee team of the last 7 seasons? I haven't seen this kind of hunger from the Yankees in a long time. I mean, they come into town looking to surgically cut your heart out. After sweeping the Sawx @ home, they go on to take 3 out of 4 from the Mariners on the road, 2 out of 3 from the A's...and now, it's time to see if this team can groove. Can they?

Tonight Andy Pettitte v. Brad Penny: The numbers don't tell the whole story. Andy Pettitte has been very strong since the break. I think he can hold the fort for 5.2-ish innings. Yanks can pound Penny if they stay patient.

Tomorrow AJ "Enter the Dragon" Burnett vs. Tazawa: It won't take A-rod to hit a walk off homer to end that cat's night.

Sunday night baseball CC Sabbathia v. Josh Beckett: Must see TV. Could be a duel like Burnett/Beckett.

Let's have some fun...

Yanks have an advantage in the first 2 games with Pettite and AJ. 3rd game seems in BOS favor by a bit. If the Yanks can take 2/3 out of this series it would be great, but they can't get swept. Getting swept means having a comfortable 6.5 game lead to a 3.5 game lead.

Am I out of line for thinking that Cano's focus ebbs and flows at times?

I can live with Elsbury possibly beating out Posada's throw but Cano's bobbling what was a solid throw by Posada made me irate.

WAKE UP Robbie...geezus. There aren't TOO many guys on the Sawx that can steal a **** of bases.

The guy dropped 1 ball, big deal. He has been almost flawless defensively this year with no mental lapses.

Stop forgiving players AFTER the game is put out of reach.

If this was against the Angels or Texas in a tight 5 game set, you'd be squirming because a dumb play led to a run scoring without a hit.

It's good to see the Sawx get their asses handed to them at Fenway but more importantly the pen will be emptied setting up good odds in the second and third games.

Great win... it's nice to see Arod finally driving some pitches with authority consistently.... Matsui is hitting like he did back in his prime...

Terrible pitching tonight by the Yanks, but at least we didn't use Mo, Hughes or Robertson.... and we have A.J. and C.C. going the next two days, guys who usually give us length..

Hey Gammons, what you think about Bowden now?

Well, the pitching wasn't helped out by the defense. Not only did Cano bobble the throw from Posada in the first but in the 6th, he **** up what would have been the second out. Instead, it gave the Sawx more life to pound on Bruney's **** pitching.

You could tell Girardi was livid tonight. He didn't look happy at all despite the win. Hopefully the Yanks are sharper tomorrow. They need to drive a stake into heart of the nation.

Second best news after the win, Damon looks to be ok.
