not sure I like this deal at all.. granderson batted .249. coke was a huge part of our bullpen and I guess we get to see one of our young prospects develop on another team.. whats new?

Coke was a huge part of our bullpen? Yea because Girardi insisted on using him even though he was below average. He is nothing special, Michael Dunn the prospect who was in the original offer the Yanks turned down yesterday, is going to be better then Phil Coke next year with LEGIT swing and miss pitches. Granderson batted .249 one year...Big whoop. What Swisher bat the year before? Come on thats such a small sample size.

but this is a PATHETIC trade for yanks, giving up your best OF and a pitching prospect for a guy who:
1) cant hit lefties
2) declining defense
3) being traded from a team looking to cut salary

is just too much.

Coke (along with Bruney) were the 2 most replaceable pitchers in the bullpen, and Jacksons ceiling is what Granderson is now. Kennedy hasn't shown anything in 2 years. Granderson will have a field day hitting in Yankees stadium and is an instant upgrade over Melky, plus gives the yankees the upperhand in negotiations with Damon and Matsui.

Granderson will only be 29 and had 30 homers in Comerica Park. Yankee Stadium will be like a bandbox to him. I think putting him with the group of players that the Yankees (instead of the chaos that was going on in Detroit last season) will revive him and you may see more of the 2007, 2008 Granderson (who lead the majors in triples with his aggressiveness and speed). And defensively he's a clear upgrade over anything the Yanks have or realistically could have gotten.



Also Granderson can contribute now while Jackson may still be a year or so away and the Yankees do want to keep the ship rolling along. This trade also gives them to leverage to not have to overspend on Damon in terms of years and puts them in a better position financially to make that big offer to Carl Crawford next offseason.

I really hope the Yanks go hard after Crawford next off-season. Imagine Crawford at the top of the Yankees lineup.

Gave up our best OF prospect who:

1) Can't hit for power
2) Strikes out too much
3) Is at least a year away from the bigs, if not 2 years while this team is built to win now

Gave up a pitching prospect who:

1) Only had about 20 good MLB innings years ago, crashed & burned the following season
2) Has had numerous injuries
3) Has a bad attitude

Gave up a reliever who:

1) Started out decently, only to fizzle down the stretch.
2) Lost the trust of Girardi
3) Gives up too many home runs
