Sheets, Duchscherer, Escobar, Marquis, Pineiro?
So I think the Yankees will sign 1 pitcher & these guys seem to be the best options. I'm curious, who would you guys like? In a perfect world I would sign Sheets but his contract demands are ridiculous (12-13 million!). Duchscherer is an interesting option as well. The problem is, the best "stuff" guys on this list have injury problems so do you pass on them for an innings eater like Marquis? Personally, I'm weary of most national league pitchers especially ones that weren't dominant in that league. If they can't dominate the NL West, how the hell are they going to fare in the AL East?

I say you offer Sheets a 7.5 mil contract with incentives with a team vesting option for a 2nd year. He has the best stuff and he has shown to be pretty damn good when healthy. Given a full year off to recover from various injuries, he should be a good bargain.
Edit: I would like to offer Escobar some sort of deal as well, he can help in a few ways if healthy with his stuff.

I say make Sheets an offer similar to what Harden got. give a mutual option for a 2nd year for 10m and incentives again.
as for Escobar- He has come out and stated he would prefer to pitch out of the pen. So i would offer him a 2 year/8m offer with incentives as well. He would be a realllllllly valuable piece coming in ahead of Mariano.
I like the Duch, but If im taking him, id prefer to give wang another chance

The only pitcher from that last I would really want is Sheets. I'd add Wang into the mix because we know he can be an innings eater who gives the Yankees a good chance to win the game and he can survive in the AL East. Those are not minor things. I think I read somewhere that Escobar has told teams he can't start anymore because of his shoulder and he should only be a bullpen option. Outside of Sheets and Wang I really don't think it's worth going after any of these guys. Duchsherer doesn't have a high reward, only a high risk. Escobar can't/won't start. Marquis won't be able to hack it in the AL. Pineiro had a career year with Dave Duncan in the NL, before that he was a scrub. I refuse to believe a light went off and he is good now. He's going to get a huge contract and he will be a bust of Carlos Silva proportions. -Jitpal

Pineiro is a back end starter that had his groundball rate fly up and his walk rate and ERA drop... hard to buy that it isn't at least a partial fluke considering it happened so far into his career. I think he'll be better than Carlos Silva going forward, but he's certainly not much of a prize. If we're going for a lower end guy, I guess I prefer Duchscherer. I have no problem with rolling the dice on Sheets so long as it isn't a lengthy or overpriced contract, though. And frankly, I want another starter around just for the likelihood of Burnett snapping his no injury streak.

I'd like to see Sheets and the Duke. Sheets has ace type stuff when healthy and would be worth the risk of an incentive laden contract for the back of the rotation. I like the Duke because of his ability to both start and come out of the bullpen which may need another reliable arm. Also, like Escobar on a one year deal for the bullpen.
Count me out for Marquis and Pineiro. Marquis doesn't have the stuff for the AL East, and Piniero is a product of Cards' pitching coach Dave Duncan who can turn mediocre talent into quality.
