Well Vizcaino is a really good prospect. He's very young though, probably 3 or more years away from the Bronx based on what little I've read. Don't forget with Vazquez's numbers in 2009, he could very well be a type A free agent at the end of the year. If he is a Type A, there's no doubt the Yankees would offer him arbitration meaning compensation picks.

You have to wonder who is going to play LF now. It won't be Gardner. Dye? Byrd? Bay? DeJesus? Holliday? -Jitpal

im reading different sites and people seem upset bout the deal, once people accept javy was never going to be a #1 and that hes here to be a #4 and to eat 200 innings, they'll like him more....hes a good #4 out there....i wanted sheets, but who knows whats going on with him

last order of business is the OF spot

I like the deal, I'll miss Melky but this had to be done. Vazquez as a #4 is awesome. I wonder who'll get the 5th spot in the rotation now Hughes or Joba.

Vizcaino became one of my favorite prospects so I hate to see him go, but you have to give up something to get something.

Don't forget that Vazquez had a bum shoulder the 2nd half of 2004. I forgot and I saw it somewhere else. His first half of the year he had a 3.56 ERA with a 10-5 record. The second half is when he went off the deep end with a 4-5 record and 6.92 ERA. If he comes anywhere close to that first half performance this is an absolute steal of a deal. -Jitpal

Is this a great deal, or is this a UNBELIEVABLE GREAT DEAL?!!!

Melky Cabrera is nothing special. Anyone who thinks he's going to miraculously become some stud over night, is in for a rude awakening. He is an average player, with only 1 standout tool, his arm.

Mike Dunn has good stuff from the left side and was going to be a bullpen option this year but he has the command and control of your good old friend Brian Bruney. Losing out on a guy like him doesn't really make you think twice, as he will probably be up and down all year anyway. (terms of performance)

Arodys Vizcaino is a very good prospect, but he's also 3++ years away. He threw only 42 innings this year before back problems. He has great stuff and TONS of projectability, but players like these fizzle out time and time again. Just think, next year if he has a good year, he will be caped around 100 innings. The next around 150 and these are all scenarios in which he stays healthy. Either way, he is a minimum of 3 years from helping the Yankees, if he even gets that far.

What we get? Oh lets just say a 200ip workhorse that was second in K's last year and is only asked to come here and be a #3-4??? The ability to have 4 SP who are all capable of throwing 200++ innings is something rarely seen in the major leagues now a days. The effects of durable starters won't be shown in the regular season, but in the playoffs. When are starters are asked for more, they can give it as they are used to the heavy workloads. It also greatly affects our RP, the less innings they throw in the regular season, the more fresh theyll be when we need them the most.

With our offense, Javy should be a WIN machine when facing up against opponents #4's. Were not asking him to come here and be a #1 and lead us to a WS, we need him to come here and pitch innings and more innings and if he can do that for us, this is a great trade. Oh, did I mention he will probably be a Type A free agent next winter? Wait, 2 picks for him? EVEN BETTER!

This is an absolute steal given the (lack of) value the Yankees gave up. Javy quietly put up a Cy Young-caliber year with the Braves in '09. I don't expect that to repeat here, but he's going to be perfectly fine mid-rotation.

Really like the deal. Hurts to give up Vizcaino but it's a good deal overall. Gives the Yanks 4 legit arms (if Burnett has turned the corner) that can give 200+ innings. And if Chamberlain steps up and pitches the way he's capable of, this staff is going to be very good (on top of having the best offense in the game).

Only part that really hurts is losing Melky. He was just an integral part to the team during last year's season. You know how many pies he ate last year? However, with the assortment of outfielders, this had to be done. It's been stated, Vazquez is an inning eater and will keep you in the game. With our offense, that's all you could ask for in a starting pitcher, especially a mid rotation man. Let's hope he has some of his NL form back here. I wonder how this affects Damon and/or Austin Jackson. I just hope we don't go into the season with Swisher in the starting lineup again.

I don't see the Yanks going with the Melkman as an everyday corner outfielder but he will probably put a up a nice line as an everyday player in the ATL.

I always like Vasquez and he is just an innings and strikeout monster. He is ERA is a misleading because he will have a month were it all goes to hell and he has to find way to get his ERA back under control after putting up an 8 over 5 starts. The other thing that gives me pause is that SEPT/OCT tends to be that month.

But the dude is 200 innings 200 K's and 1.25 whip.

The Yankees have acquired Javier Vazquez from the Atlanta Braves for Melky Cabrera and Mike Dunn, sources told ESPN The Magazine senior writer Buster Olney.

In addition, the Braves are sending right-hander Boone Logan to the Yankees, sources said.

I'll definitely miss Melky's energy and arm...but WOW do I loooove this deal. We solve like 3 birds w/ one stone.

You gave up just about nothing for a guy that had a Cy Young calibre season...that's hard to hate. Whether Vazquez can repeat that success in NYS is another question.

Some Yankee fans expect an all-star at every position. I can't imagine how anybody could hate or not like this deal.

Technically speaking the Yankees traded prospects and a league average outfielder for an All-Star pitcher. :o -Jitpal

Yeah that's true, but I was more speaking at some fans that're saying "now they have a huge hole in LF". Well, who cares. They outscored every team in the entire major leagues by nearly 100 runs last year (with A-Rod missing over a month) and have only gotten better offensively, at least IMO.

It's hard not to like the deal. For a 4th starter, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better starter than Javy Vazquez. I expect his ERA to take a jump, but even if he keeps his ERA around 4, this will be a good trade for the Yankees. That and the fact that he's on a one year deal, make it a nice trade for the Yanks.

Melky's energy and late game heroics will be missed, and Vizcaino could be something nice in a few years, but for a team that is built to win now and needed a workhorse innings guy for the rotation, Vazquez is just that.

I guess the next order of business is who will play LF. If Damon comes down to the Yanks' demands, I think he'll be an option. If not, DeRosa seems like a nice fit.
