The GCL season begins today, here is the roster:
http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb ... os&cid=475

Loads of talent down there, it will be a fun team to follow

Banuelos is actually starting for them today as he rehabs, this being his season debut. Great to see him back after missing a few months due to the appendectomy.

Betances is on the mound for Tampa tonight I believe

Laird - 1 for 7, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, K
Noesi - 3 innings, 1 hit, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K (game was suspended after 3 innings that day, and today wasn't his turn in the rotation so he could not complete it). Since his first start in Trenton (5 runs in 6 innings) he has gone 32 innings, allowing 25 hits, 5 BB, 30 K, 1.12 ERA, 0.94 WHIP

Tampa had a double header...

Betances - 6 innings, 1 hit, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K - in his 3 starts this season, 18 innings, 6 hits, 2 BB, 21 K, 0.50 ERA, 0.44 WHIP. He could have gone deeper in all of those games as well, but he has been on an 80 pitch limit. His fastball has been averaging 94-95 and touching 96-98.
Joseph - 1 for 7, RBI, K
Pirela - 2 for 6, 2B, 2 RBI

First off, Brackman has been promoted to Trenton and will make his debut tomorrow.

Also, Zolio Almonte has been promoted to Tampa.

Montero - 1 for 4

Romine - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, K
Laird - 3 for 5, 2 R, 2 HR (3-run shot and grand slam), 7 RBI, K...gives him 18 homers and 76 RBI to go along with 18 doubles and 2 triples, leads all of the minor leagues in RBI, more than anyone in the majors too...get him to AAA
Noesi - 7 innings, 4 hits, 2 ER, 3 BB, 10 K...I see AAA in his future if he keeps this up and Betances/Stoneburner push their way to AA...btw Stoneburner 3rd in WHIP and 2nd in BAA in the entire minors

Betances and Brackman pitching beautifully, moving through the system...the two of them are saving this farm system.

Montero's last 3 games - 8 for 14, 2 doubles, 2 homers...his average has risen from .234 to .254

Laird's last 8 games - 10 for 29, 3 doubles, 5 homers, 15 RBI...he has 18 doubles, 19 homers, and 77 RBI on the season with a ridiculous .565 SLG

Nunez - 1 for 3, 3 R, 2 BB
McAllister - 7 innings, 5 hits, 4 ER, 1 BB, 5 K

Joseph - 4 for 6, 2 R, 4 2B!!, 2 RBI, BB
A. Almonte - 2 for 7, BB...first game since April 23rd, I actually thought he was out for the year so this is a pleasant surprise

Heathcott - 1 for 2, 2 R, 2 BB, K
Paredes - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI
Murphy - 0 for 4, 2 K

Sosa - 1 for 4, R, 2 K, SB
De Leon - 2 for 6, 2 R, 2 home runs, 6 RBI

How legit a propsect is Laird?

If he's a 3b, where would the yankees project him? DH? Isn't that Montero's spot potentially?

Just asking.

Is his main value as trade bait?

He is definitely a legit prospect, unfortunately there isn't much space for him with the Yankees in the near future. He isn't good defensively, and he isn't nearly athletics enough to play a corner OF spot, so he is pretty much locked into 3B/1B/DH, which don't have many openings with the major league club.

I would say he is mostly trade bait, and his enormous power numbers will definitely draw interest. He isn't a top prospect because of his positions/defense, but his bat can hang with anybody.

Even Montero's future is up in the air, he leads his league with 10 passed balls and is throwing out about 20% of base stealers. For a while now, I've been saying that Montero will be moved off the catching position but mainly due to Austin Romine being such a complete player. That only leaves the DH spot for Montero. Ideally, I think Montero/Romine will split time at C/DH to keep both fresh while keeping their value high as players.

With the success and impact of Cervelli's defense compared to Posada's lack of defense, I don't know if people would be willing to put up with Montero's defense behind the plate...but lets not forget, he is still only 20 years old. If the Yankees are as dedicated as they seem to be to keep Montero as the catcher, then that may make Romine trade bait as well.

Sanchez is raking right now.
1 for 2 - 3 BB, HR, 2 RBI
Good to see Culver finally have a good game as well: 4 for 5, 2B, RBI

I'm assuming Trenton had a double header today
Laird (2 games): 3-6, 2 RBI
Romine (2): 2-4, 2 BB
Noesi- 7 IP, 5 H, 4 SO, 0 BB, 0 ER

Now NYKGM, what about this Hector Noesi guy? I've never heard of him before this season started, and he's pitching great. He was 5-2 with a 2.72 ERA and .212 opponet BA (53 SO-6 BB) in 43 innings in Tampa before getting called up. Since getting the call to Trenton he is 5-1 with a 1.9 ERA and an opponet .216 BA (48 SO-9 BB) in 52 innings. I saw he was selected for the futures game, any kind of report on this guy? How does he project and what kind of stuff does he have? I see he's a little old (23) for pitching in A ball and maybe that's why he dominated as much as he did, but he hasn't disappointed since getting moved to Trenton. He have any future with the Yanks or more of a trade bait prospect that the Yanks try to sell while his values high?

Noesi was very much an unknown coming into this season, I've had to do a lot of reading about him to get caught up on him.

He missed time in 06/07 due to TJ surgery, and spent 2008 in Staten Island and the GCL. Even though his numbers were impressive there, he was a 21 year old in short season ball so he wasn't given much love as a prospect. Then in 2009 he dominated Charleston (75.2 innings, 62 innings, 11 BB, 78 K, 2.38 ERA), but 22 year olds pitching well in low-A don't get much love either. In Tampa his peripherals were outstanding (41.1 innings, 34 hits, 4 BB, 40 K) but his 3.92 ERA prevented him from being considered a legitimate prospect prior to this season.

Then as you said, he has exploded onto the scene this year. Although he is 23 and in AA, it took him this long to get here because he lost nearly 2 years to TJ surgery, its not as if his stuff or anything else wasn't good enough to be a good prospect.

He throws in the low 90s but has really great command, and his curveball has reportedly become a major league pitch to go with great command as well. The changeup is going to be the key for him, it can be the difference in him being a #5 starter or a #2/#3 starter. His calling card, however, is his command. Before this season his BB/9 ratio was a ridiculous 1.6, this season it is 1.4 so he has actually lowered it during the season, which is crazy.

What is intriguing about Noesi is that he had to be placed on the 40-man roster to be protected from the rule 5 draft, so the Yankees aren't going to take it slow with him. Given that his career high in innings is 117 (last year) and he has the history of injuries, I doubt they let him get much further than 140 innings this season. So chances are we may see him as a September call up in the bullpen, unless he reaches his limit well before then which is very possible.

Either way, we'll be seeing him next year. My guess is he projects as a #3/4 starter.

And Gary Sanchez is a beast, it seems like pitchers are just afraid to pitch to him...and hes just 17.

Noesi will pitch in the MLB. He is 90-93 but with 65 command. This allows his offspeed pitches to play way up. His curveball and changeup are both 55 pitches on the scouting scale so they are a hair above average. The fact that he commands all pitches to both sides of the plate is what truly makes him special.

NYKGM said earlier that he did some reading up on him but I'm not sure if he found some articles in which Newman and Contreras both said he is without a doubt going to pitch in the MLB. Noesi is proving them right this season for damn sure!
