A's, Blanton avoid arbitration

The Oakland Athletics and pitcher Joe Blanton agreed to one-year deal Friday, avoiding arbitration.

Financial terms were not announced.

Blanton, 27, made the league minimum of $380,000 last season, while going 14-10 with a 3.95 ERA.

The 27-year-old right-hander finished fourth in the American League with 230 innings pitched. He also set the third-lowest mark in Oakland history for walks per nine innings (1.57).

Pitcher Chad Gaudin is the lone Oakland player still eligible for arbitration.

Closer Huston Street agreed to a one-year deal Thursday.
