First Pitch is about to happen.

The game is under way here in Minny, hopefully the A's can get on the board first. Firast pitch is a ball.

Shannon Stewart is having a pretty good at bat so far.

Shannon strucks out at a bad pitch. 1 out for the Twins

Well the game is over, the A's lose to the Twins by the score of 6-2. Man, the A's absolutely stink on offense. They are so anemic. Once T. Buck comes back (which could be tomorrow), this should be the A's lineup:

Buck RF
Crosby SS
Stewart LF
Cust DH
Swisher 1B
Chavez 3B
Ellis 2B
Kotsay CF
Kendall C

But since we are facing Johan Santana tomorrow, our lineup should be:

Crosby SS
Kielty RF
Stewart LF
Cust DH
Swisher CF
Chavez 3B
Ellis 2B
Johnson 1B
Kendall C

But sadly, Bob Geren continues to hit Kotsay 2nd in the order and Swisher 3rd in the order (I'm okay w/ this) when Kotsay is horrible right now and Swisher has been in a slump for a while now. Shannon Stewart is our best hitter right now and I like him in the 3rd slot in the order, where the best overall hitter should be. Plus I think hitting Bobby Crosby in the upper part of the batting order could be beneficial. I like him in the 1-2 spot in the order.

Let's see if the A's can rebound and still have a good series.

It's going to be nice to see Buck in the line-up. I really thought that this guy was going to have a great chance to be a great player some time in his career.
Crosby SS
Kielty RF

Thats never going to happen with Geren.

Kotsay is just doing terrible so far. Swisher did get a double yesterday.

I think its safe to say we've taken a significant step back from our playoff days. Time to get some of your guns some MLB burn, and get ready for a better 08...

We didn't look good out there today.

If I'm Billy Beane, I try to get as many assets as I can for the future by trading guys that will not be here next year or in the future. Guys like Mike Piazza, Dan Johnson, Joe Kennedy, Shannon Stewart will all attract some interest from other teams. You can even add Alan Embree and Kiko Calero to that list as well.

I think we can still make the playoffs. I really do. But in order to make the playoffs, we must get rid of the dead weight on our team and play some of the young guys. This team is lacking energy and fire. I think young guys like Kurt Suzuki, Daric Barton, Travis Buck when he comes back will provide some of that fire we desperately need.

The thing is, however, we cannot get rid of Mark Kotsay and Jason Kendall. These guys have no trade value. We're stuck with them. If we bench them (Bob Geren is too scared to bench them), they are not going to be happy and will ruin the chemistry in the clubhouse. So that is why we have to trade at least one of the OF's in addition to Dan Johnson. The OF that currently has the highest trade value is Shannon Stewart. Plus any young guys we get in a trade is a plus.

As far as our pitching rotation goes, I do not think Esteban Loaiza is coming back this year, just from the way things are going. Rich Harden might be well-advised to just have surgery on his shoulder. So that leaves us w/ Dan Haren, Joe Blanton, and Chad Gaudin. I would bring up Dan Meyer and Michael Madsen to see what they've got to offer to the big league club. We might get some asset in a trade to put into the rotation as well.

For the bullpen, I would have Andrew Brown, Dallas Braden, Santiago Casilla, and Huston Street as our 7-8-9 inning guys. I would put Lenny DiNardo, Connor Robertson, Ron Flores and maybe even Jason Windsor when he comes back as our middle relief guys to fill up our Bullpen.

This what I think our starting lineup should be:

1-Buck LF
2-Crosby SS
3-Barton 1B
4-Cust DH
5-Swisher RF
6-Chavez 3B
7-Ellis 2B
8-Kotsay CF
9-Suzuki/Kendall C

Pitching rotation:

1-Haren
2-Blanton
3-Gaudin
4-Meyer
5-Madsen

Bullpen:
Middle Relief-Lenny DiNardo, Ron Flores, Connor Robertson, Jason Windsor/Shane Komine

7-8-9 inning guys: Dallas Braden, Andrew Brown, Santiago Casilla, Huston Street (closer)

With the addition of the guys we get through trades, I think that we can re-tool and make the playoffs. We are not that far off, folks. It's time for Billy Beane to realize that if the veterans are not getting the job done, then get rid of them and see if the young guys can get you somewhere.

Let's go Billy Beane!!! Let's go A's!!!!

I agree

It's time to move on from the season and trade players for the future.
