Big Trades (Matt Olson & Matt Chapman)

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Wed Mar 16, 2022 12:28 pm

Jon Morosi of MLB Network confirms that the Blue Jays are finalizing a trade for Athletics infielder Matt Chapman.

Carlos Baerga -- yes, the former three-time All-Star -- was first to report the news. It's looking like yet another significant sell-off by an Oakland team that has already dealt star first baseman Matt Olson to the Braves and could soon begin flipping high-impact starting pitchers like Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea. There is no word yet on what the A's might get in return on Chapman. Probably young (and cost-controlled) talent.

Athletics acquired OF Cristian Pache, C Shea Langeliers, RHP Ryan Cusick and RHP Joey Estes from the Braves for 1B Matt Olson.

Pache is a phenomenal defender in center field, but has struggled at the plate, slashing a calamitous .119/.157/.209 with one homer in 72 plate appearances at the major-league level over the last two years. The 23-year-old outfielder will get a change of scenery in Oakland and has an opportunity to emerge as one of the centerpieces of their long-term rebuilding effort. There's a strong possibility he's the Athletics' Opening Day center fielder.
