The Oakland Athletics today traded outfielder Rajai Davis to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-handed minor league relief pitchers Daniel Farquhar and Trystan Magnuson. Both players pitched for Toronto's Double-A affiliate New Hampshire this past season.

Farquhar, 23, posted a 4-3 record and 3.52 ERA in 53 appearances in 2010, tying for third in the Eastern League with 17 saves. The Blue Jays' 10th round selection in the 2008 June First Year Player Draft, the 5-11, 180-pound pitcher allowed only 50 hits in 76.2 innings while striking out 79 this past season. The former University of Louisiana Lafayette product owns an 8-9 mark and 2.62 ERA with 39 saves in 122 career minor league games.

Magnuson, 25, was a 2007 first-round pick by Toronto (supplemental, 56 overall) out of the University of Louisville. The 6-7, 210-pound right-hander registered a 3-0 record and 2.58 ERA in 46 relief appearances with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in 2010, yielding 70 hits and 10 walks in 73.1 innings while striking out 63 and securing five saves. After enduring a 0-9 rookie campaign at Single-A Lansing in 2008, Magnuson has rebounded to reel off a combined 8-1 record and 2.48 ERA (40 er, 145 ip) in 89 games during the past two seasons.

A five-year Major League veteran, the 30-year-old Davis batted .284 with five home runs, 52 RBI and a career-high 50 stolen bases in 143 games this past season. Playing all three outfield positions, he ranked third in the American League and majors in steals and became the seventh player in A's history to swipe at least 50 bases. Davis, who ranks eighth on the A's career stolen base list (116), also batted a career-high .305 with 41 stolen bases in 125 games for the A's in 2009.

The Norwich, Conn. native was claimed off waivers by Oakland April 23, 2008 after playing parts of the 2006 and 2007 seasons with Pittsburgh as well as parts of the 2007 and 2008 seasons with San Francisco. He is a .281 lifetime hitter with 72 doubles, 14 triples, 12 home runs, 128 RBI and 143 stolen bases in 476 Major League games.

I'm not sure what to think about this trade at the moment, but I never expected us to Davis, so I'll just see what our new additions end up doing over the next few years.
