What should the A's do?

Its about that time of the season, when the A's start to heat up. This year however, I'm just not feeling it. I dont think this team has the makeup to make the playoffs this year... but knowing our team, I'm willing to give it a chance. But here are 3 options:
#1 Wait it out and hope we get hot
Rich Harden has been out for most of the year and is working his way back into the rotation as we speak. Swisher, Chavez, Crosby, and Kotsay have all underperformed, and our bullpen has been a wreck of injuries. It can't possibly be this bad all year, right? Huston Street comes back from the DL soon, Mike Piazza will be back soon as well. With a streak at the right time, we're right back in this.
#2 Sell off our older, good assets
Look, we may as well cash in our chips while we can and make a strong run for some young players while we can. We have some good vets (Shannon Stewart, Mike Piazza) and some good bit players for playoff teams (Kendall, Kotsay, Johnson, Kennedy, Loaiza, Embree, Calero). We also have still young and still potentially good/great players in Eric Chavez and Dan Johnson. Our core consists of Dan Haren, Chad Gaudin (now), Nick Swisher, Travis Buck, Kurt Suzuki, Huston Street, and Jack Cust. Waiting in the wings are Daric Barton, Chris Denorfia, Dan Meyer and Chris Snelling. Why try now when the future looks oh so good?
#3 Make a big trade and get back in the race
Remember all those future assets? Maybe we can package one or two into getting the big bopper we need on offense. Maybe we can Beane ourselves another Jermaine Dye. Who knows? With our GM, we can never be certain - but we do usually come out on top. We usually have a roster shakeup when things get dicey, and it usually works. Get on it Billy!
