A busy offseason of rehabilitation got even busier Friday for Eric Chavez.
The A's third baseman underwent debridement surgery on his left shoulder, a minor procedure aimed at reducing bursitis that had built up around his labrum. The surgery was performed in Phoenix by Dr. Doug Freedberg, and Chavez is expected to begin therapy on his shoulder within a week.
Before September, Chavez had never undergone a surgical procedure. Now he's had three operations in a little more than two months. He had a torn labrum in his right shoulder repaired Sept. 5, then underwent microdiscectomy surgery Oct. 9 to fix a bulging disk in his lower back.
