Although i had always been a Giants fan, the A's were a close #2 in my heart. I grew up in the East Bay and through the years, attended many of their games. Just now i read a very interesting opinion about Barry Bonds that may place him on this team for this next season.

Get him cheap if you can. Get him to play either in the field or to DH. But PLEASE, just get him. I would like nothing better than to watch Bonds in a A's uniform next season.

Why would the A's pay 10 mil+ for a guy who's just a distraction and would take DH time away from our young bats?
Barry in Oakland is an absolute disaster... we've got Haren and Blanton on the block to replenish our farm system. The only way I can conceivably see Barry on our team is with the intent of trading him ASAP for any prospect we could.

He'd also be the biggest problem... the Mitchell case looms, and he disrupts the one thing that makes Oakland really unique - a stress-free locker room.
Signing Bonds would make sense if we were still a playoff team. We're not. Spend the money on scouting or just save it for next year.
There is some benefit, but it sure doesn't outweigh the potential destruction he could bring.
