A's sign Russ Springer

"Russ Springer finally got his physical completed Thursday in Houston, and the 40-year-old right-hander signed a one-year contract for $3.3 million with another possible $300,000 based on games played. Springer is expected to be a set-up man, providing experience for Oakland's young bullpen. Brad Ziegler and Joey Devine, rookies last year, are both capable of closing, but Ziegler is the more likely of the two to join Springer in a set-up role. Springer, who last pitched in the American League in 1995, said he's looking forward to one more turn around the league before he retires.
