Brett Myers sent to the Bullpen

Post#1 » by Sixerboy3 » Wed Apr 18, 2007 9:08 pm

Brett Myers, the Phillies' opening day starting pitcher, was demoted to the bullpen today and Jon Lieber will take his place in the rotation and start in his place Friday against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Really odd move in my mind. Don't understand taking your best pitcher and sending him to the bullpen 12 games in the season.

This is probably one of the worst personnel decisions a team has made in quite a long time. Are they going to convert Jimmy Rollins to 3B to make room for Abraham Nunez at short?

They should turn Howard into a pinch hitter. That way they can use him whenever they need him the most!

Manuel needs to be fired for doing something like this. I don't care if Myers has a 2.00 ERA this year as a closer, he's much more valuable pitching 200+ innings.

Take one of your top 2 starters, who's likely to give you 200+ innings, make him a reliever who's going to give you less than 100. Replace said starter with Lieber.

Brilliant.

I'm at the point of giving up with this team. Which is said, because I have 16 games left that I've paid for.

Maybe this move will pay early dividends today since you guys are gonna be in a close one. But long term, not a very smart move.

But see...now brett myers can pitch in 50-60 games instead of like 35....so it's gotta be good because he'll pitch in MORE GAMES (seriously, that's the logic charlie spewed)

BTW...to make it worse, Brett Myers said he'd only do it if it's for the ENTIRE season

I hate fat lieber

Just because it works doesn't make it the best move they could HAVE made...learn basic english, I'll eat crow

You are using Charlie Manuel logic...also this is the phillies, when Gordons rehab is over, they most likely make him the closer again.

The best move they could HAVE made was to improve the bullpen in the off season instead of signing useless uneeded scrubs like Helms and Barajas

Brett Myers is not a closer. He should be pitching right now instead of Kyle Kendrick.

Horrible move.
