Figured i'd make this thread now, Javier Lopez and Jeremy Affeldt are officially returning.

We picked up Affeldt's option for $5 million. I doubt he'd sign for that much if we let him go and then re-signed him. Doesn't matter too much though, I'm just glad to have them both back.

What are the odds we keep Beltran? What's the most you'd pay?

I realize we won't spend the money, but if you were a great hitter like Pujols, don't you think you would want to play for the Giants? I just feel like our pitching is so strong that one big hitter could easily make us contenders every year.

My thoughts exactly. Same goes for all the other hitters on the FA market, or at least you would think so, right?

I would love for the Giants to spend big money on Pujols cause it's not my money and they probably have the funds to do so. Of course, it's just not gonna happen, so it's not worth thinking about very much.

Our only realistic options seem to be Coco Crisp and Grady Sizemore. Maybe some SS that we never heard of till the Giants sign him.

I'm pretty happy with the trade. As long as Cabrera can have a similar season like he did last year, I think it's a great trade for us.

This says that either Melky will 1. be our center fielder which means torres is out, or 2, be our right fielder which means Beltran wont be back.

I'd say the first one. Now the Giants have more money to throw at Beltran that they otherwise would have spent on Crisp.

IDK how I feel about this. Sabean sold pretty low on Sanchez who just had a **** year, and the Royals sold high on Cabrera who had a career year. He is only 27 though, so maybe he can keep it up for a couple years. Pretty likely he won't though.

Almost all Giants fans online absolutely hate this trade, but we hate pretty much every Sabean trade. I really don't think Sanchez is much to give up.

Pretty much how I feel, especially since now Zito is our main lefty in the rotation, so we'll be counting on him even more. Although, I don't think Sanchez will ever be more than the 4th man of the rotation, and he was gonna be pricey next year if he bounced back and had a decent year.

I think Cabrera is only on contract through next season. Anyone know if that is correct?

Correct, both him and Sanchez would have been FA's next year. So it's not a terrible deal, since the Giants probably realized they wouldn't have the $$$ to re-sign Sanchez AND Cain (provided that Sanchez had a decent year).

We signed Gregor Blanco! Woooo!!!

:blank:

Honestly, I don't see us doing much this offseason. Melky's our "big splash." Hope to get Timmy locked up for 4-5 years if we can at the least.

Yeah, but he may not even make the team, since it's just a minor league deal.

The Giants signed outfielder Gregor Blanco to a contract, according to the player’s agency.

The editor of Baseball America tweeted that Octagon Baseball is reporting that Blanco, 27, signed with San Francisco. While not confirmed, it’s likely that the Giants only had to offer Blanco a minor-league deal.

Blanco spent 2011 with the Triple-A affiliates of the Nationals and Royals. In 51 games with the Syracuse Chiefs and 23 games with the Omaha Storm Chasers, Blanco hit just .201, but stole 24 bases and had an on-base percentage of .350.

Signed by Atlanta as an amateur free agent in 2000, Blanco is just one year removed from a solid season with the Braves and Royals. In 2010, Blanco hit .283 with a .360 OBP and 11 steals in 85 games.

I'm not sure if we get Timmy locked up, but I think Cain will get an extension for 3 more years soon. After that, we'll take a swing at re-signing Beltran and go from there. I still think we need a lead off batter, because Melky is much better at batting 2nd.

I think Timmy will be gone next year after we win another ring. Cain will be re-signed this year for another 2 years, though.

I completely missed the part where we traded Sanchez for Cabrera. I know we trade for Melky but I didn't know we gave Sanchez. He had a down year, but ultimately, I think we sold low.

Man I love the Winter Meetings. Usually we get nothing done but it's just fun stuff overall.
