If Bonds breaks the record...

Post#1 » by opzoneworld » Mon Apr 9, 2007 3:02 pm

If Bonds breaks the record before the trade deadline, would you want the Giants to trade him?

I believe that if he stays healthy and breaks the record before the deadline, there will be a few AL teams in contention that would welcome Bonds as a DH if it helped to get them to the WS. If I am the Giants, I certainly throw his name into the ring. They should be able to get at least one top prospect for him; maybe even be able to rid themselves of Feliz or Winn in the process.

For the Giants, they get to see him break the record in a Giants uniform and then starting building for their future. For Bonds, he gets one last chance at a ring. A win-win for both it would seem like.

I want to say HELL NO, because it wouldn't be right. Bonds was a key reason why the Giants didn't leave SF...we were nearly the TB Giants before Bonds, McGowan, and Pac Bell saved our franchise.

However, if a can't miss, stud prospect is coming back to us, I'd be open to it. I just don't think a team would give much up for a player that may not even play in 2008.

You won't get much for Bonds anyway, so why bother? Next year should be a total rebuild year. You may want to look to trade Durham at the deadline, though, and hand the 2b job to Frandsen.

As a Giants fan, it would be very hard for me to see Bonds in another teams uni. But at the end of the day, I would love to see him get a ring and this year should be his last chance. Even if that means he gets one with someone besides SF, at least he gets the ring everyone knows he desperatly wants while being able to break the record in a Giants uni.

MLB is first and foremost a business and it would be a very sound business choice for the Giants to attempt to trade Bonds once he breaks the record. To a team like the LAA, Boston, NY, maybe MINN, Bonds DHing could very well put them over the top. A 5-star propoect Bond wont fetch but I bet someone would give up a 4-start one and that is a hell of a lot better than what we currently have to replace him.

My two cents.
