Christopher Reina/RealGM - Tim Alderson, picked 22nd overall by the San Francisco Giants in the 2007 draft, is getting accustomed to pitching out of the windup in high Single-A San Jose.

The 6-6 19-year-old pitched exclusively out of the stretch when he was drafted but the Giants are having him work out of the windup this season.

In Friday night's start against Bakersfield, Alderson struck out five batters in five innings while yielding two runs in the second on a Grant Gerrard triple.

Last Sunday at Bakersfield, Alderson worked five scoreless innings, but struck out just one batter.

The fact that Alderson is pitching in high Single-A at such an early age, a whole year earlier than Matt Cain, reveals the confidence the organization has in his stuff and maturity.

Alderson has excellent command and a fastball that usually is in the low 90's, but can occasionally hit 94

We get featured on the wiretap... For another pitching prospect.
What kind of time frame are we looking at for this kid?

Likely 2010 but wouldn't surprise me if he gets a shot in September 2009.

We have such an impressive array of young players...

If we can hang on to them, we're looking at an incredibly strong rotation for the next decade or so.

I agree with 2010. I think the Giants will go slow with him. He is only 18 right now. I think he will stay in San Jose for the season and not get a callup. You can't risk that arm. AA next season with a legit chance to make the rotation in 2010.

On the other hand, Bum has gotten off to horrible start. So far nothing at all to really get excited about being the #10 pick.

he'll probably finish the year in double a, he looks like a keeper.

I hope hes do not go up to AA this year. He is too young. You don't rush a young arm.

Yeah...there's no reason at all to rush him through the minors, we have so many good pitchers.
