The discrepancy is too large to be a coincidence...why such the large dropoff?

I understand that it can be difficult to learn a new position, but the difference between the 2 positions is staggering. If this slump is attributed to the change to first, how long should it take before he returns to form?(not the insane numbers he put up of course, but certainly better than hitting .130).

Bowker came onto the scene like a "rock star" and un-educated Giant's fan were pissing themselves saying this guy was going to be rookie of the year and Barry who? and blah blah.

Bowker is only 24 years old and this is his first trip to the majors. It is extremely unrealistic that he was going to keep up that "rock star" pace that he entered the league with. He is coming back down to earth now and is attempting to find his grove.

I like Bowker. I was talking about him last year while he was in AA and I think he will have a good career, possibly on the cusp of a few All-Star teams. He has power and a quick bat but he is trying to learn the game at the major league level.

When judging a young player, you cannot just look at his stats. For example, his average has dropped off a great deal but he is hitting the ball very hard when he makes contact. He has also been robbed more than a few times so he is average is not a good indication of his production.

He does tend to swing at a lot of balls out of the strikezone and needs to learn some patience at the plate. But just as easily as he is smoking the ball right into opponents gloves they will soon start finding holes again.

Be patient.

You couldn't have expected him to continue batting over .400 and hitting a HR every game or so. League has adjusted to him and now he just needs to adjust and lay off some of those high fastballs and offspeed pitches. Just be glad the franchise is finally letting some of our young guys play on a regular basis and not just throwing out Randy Winn and Dave Roberts everyday. Bowker should be a fine player, probably more of a power guy with a 250-270 average type guy. His swing is a little bit longer that you'd like, so he'll probably be a high K guy.
