The Giants need a bat or two in the worst way, but this would be a huge mistake if true.
Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed.

Page not found..guess CBS decided it was bad info? Anyways, Manny would bring in more $$$ (fans), but I don't want him on the Giants. I would rather go for Burrell, IMO. Ramirez seems too much like a hit or miss...and the last time we played big money for a hit or miss player, he ended up turning into the worst signing the Giants have ever made (ZITO!)

The buzz regarding the Giants' interest in Ramirez has risen recently. The Denver Post led the parade by reporting that the Giants were "aggressively pursuing" him. San Francisco's KPIX-TV reported that the team had offered Ramirez a multiyear contract. And SI.com's Jon Heyman wrote that the Giants had "entered the bidding" for Ramirez.

But two industry sources said Friday that any talk of Ramirez receiving a contract offer from the Giants has been overblown.

The Giants' priority still may be obtaining an offensively proven corner infielder, since their outfield is full. Moreover, signing Ramirez would send the Giants beyond their payroll limit and might force them to trade another outfielder such as Aaron Rowand or Randy Winn -- neither of whom has prompted much demand on the trade market despite respectable track records.

For all his offensive prowess, Ramirez is considered a defensive liability. Bent on maximizing the asset of a strong starting pitching rotation, the Giants have been reluctant to consider players who are subpar defenders.

However, obtaining Ramirez could make the Giants the favorites to win the NL West. And ticket sales -- a concern for all clubs given the nation's economic malaise -- surely would accelerate if he brought his act to San Francisco.

It's believed that the Giants might consider Ramirez if he lowered his salary demands, which reportedly are hovering around $20 million a year.

I do it in a heartbeat. Takes away the Dodgers main cog and impacts our line-up in a huge way.

Sandoval would see tons of fastballs and Rowan and Bengie would benefit as well. take pressure off of both to be main run producers.

It's kind of dragging on so long now that I feel there actually might be something in the works for the Giants. It reminds me of the Zito offseason.

but if I had to bet I'd say that Manny will remain a Dodger.

If they can get this done on basically 4 one- year deals, it's a no brainer. I just don't want a repeat of what happened in Boston and then we're left holding the bag for $70M and 3 years.

There was talk of the Cain-Hardy/Fielder...If they do that, sign Bonds, they win it all. They could get 100 games out of bonds and play the rest of the guys as needed but what about this lineup...tell me you can find a hole on O. Our games would look like football scores.

cf-rowand
ss-hardy
lf-manny
1b-fielder
rf-bonds
2b-renteria
3b-sandoval
c-bengie

screw defense, they're good for two touchdowns a game. I think they would sell a few tickets as well.

I would not want to watch a team with Manny and Barry in the same outfield. What a mess.

No point in trading Cain either. We should just be staying the course at this point. I have no problem with a three year deal for Manny with a numbers based team option for the fourth, which I think was mentioned earlier.

If the team scores 7-8+ runs a game I can live with watching Barry hobble around in PacBell's tiny right field with Rowand and Manny covering some extra ground. Manny is a solid outfielder and pretty fast when he wants to be. Look at that lineup, I don't think we'd have any problems signing another pitcher or two with that team. Sabean loves his fogies, this would be the all fogey team and they could get two before they blew it up. Go Boston Celtic style, they won one, might get two or more even. It's been since 1954, I think its long enough. doubt that cain trade wiuld happen, doubt theyll get manny and doubt theyd resign barry but it could sell some tix and make muuuucho $$$$$ and win a series but it will never happen. guess well wait til livan hernandez starts anothr game 7. lets get ready for another shtti season. whatever

It would be like going through the bad part of the Bonds Era again with media in the clubhouse asking about steroids everyday.
