There may be an opening for you writing at firejoemorgan. They'll probably tweak it with a few f-bombs, but this is worthy stuff right here.[/quote]

Funny thing about that. Back in 2004 I used to do a weekly thread on the old RealGM baseball forum called "Arguing With Joe Morgan" in which I would lambaste Joe's answers during his chats. I don

This demotion pees me off, too. It's not like we're in the running. We actually could use this season productively, kind of like a 100 game preseason. Try out all the remaining talent that's ready or near ready for a shot at the ML level. Hell, try working Brandon Morrow into the starting rotation intermittently. Like sweezo said, give Reed a shot in left. Keep on your toes as we approach the trade deadline for offers for Jojhima, Ibanez, Battista, etc...

Why doesn't this team try to turn a negative into a positive?

I don't like how they are planning on using Reed either. The guy was once a top prospect, struggled mightily, and is finally putting up numbers somewhere that are in line with what made him a top prospect at one point in his career. And you traded a hell of a lot (at the time, mind you) to get the guy.

I thought the Reed trade was a great deal at the time. And I recall that just about everybody on the old OT Mariners thread from the Sonics board agreed. It was sort of analogous to the Bedard trade, with Reed starring in the role of Adam Jones. Bavasi got that one right, but it still turned sour.

And before Urban Zealot comes in and tells me this proves young prospects can't be relied on, I'll mention that Freddy Garcia has been doing even worse than Reed, Olivo and Morse lately. Plus we didn't acquire in a high-quality major league relievers and two first tier pitching prospects in the deal.

I thought it was a pretty good trade too, and even though it hasn't worked out in terms of production from the players acquired via trade, I'll still take what we got over the alternative of signing Freddy Garcia to a long term contract.
