Mariners Resign King Felix

Being reported by ESPN, Felix signed to a multiyear extension. Z is now officially canonized if this is the case. LOL

Felix Hernandez to sign long-term with Mariners: ESPN report

Posted by Geoff Baker

There's a report that came out about a half hour ago from Keith Law over at ESPN saying that the Mariners have reached agreement on a multi-year deal with Felix Hernandez. The deal is said to be pending a physical, but no contract length or figures were revealed in the report.

Law is pretty well connected from his time in the Blue Jays front office and so I trust his source
. Been trying for the last half-hour to get somebody on the phone, be they from the Mariners or Hernandez's camp. Everybody has gone silent. Part of it is because it is after midnight on the east coast. But it isn't after midnight here and yet, the M's have gone mysteriously silent. Usually, when they are like that, there is truth to the rumors that have come out, So, I'd say this one definitely has some legs.

Tomorrow was the day when both sides in arbitration cases exchange figures with each other ahead of a hearing. If Hernandez has agreed to a deal, that won't be happening.

Thgis is obviously huge news for Mariners fans and something the team wanted to get out of the way ahead of the coming season. The M's could not, as we've told you before, let this thing drag out into the regular season and risk Hernandez being off his game.

Please let this be true...we've already extended Gutierrez, now let's make sure we keep Felix around.

It's awesome to see a GM spending money on the right players!

Not anyone. At all. We don't even have to think about losing Felix for 3 years now. We have reestablished ourselves as a team/franchise to reckon with in a little over a year's time after losing 100 games. It's breathtaking to me. What Z has done for this franchise cannot be overstated. What's more, we'll see how he did in last year's draft. I bet pretty good, and I'll look into those picks one of these days.

For perspective...keep in mind John Lackey signed a 5 year/$83 million deal this same offseason. What a deal.

And with the way Felix pitches we would have paid him a ton in his remaining arbitration years anyway...so many positives all the way around.

Time to heap some more praise on Jack Z!

The doomsday scenario is off the board, the vultures have stopped circling, and it didn't cost $100 mill. Amazing.
