What we got for Lee

Post#1 » by TTown » Fri Jul 9, 2010 10:31 pm

Reportedly.

1B Justin Smoak is hitting .300 with 2 HRs, 5 RBIs, 6 doubles, .470 OBP in 15 games at AAA Oklahoma City.

RHP Blake Beavan: 10-5 with a 2.78 ERA at AAA Oklahoma City. He's 6'7, and with the success of Doug Fister, I think Z is enamored with tall pitchers.

RHP Josh Lueke: 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA, 2 saves, 26 Ks in 15 relief appearances at AA Frisco.

2B Matt Lawson is hitting .277 with 7 HRs, 34 RBIs, 16 doubles at AA Frisco.

Sick, hopefully we can get 2 regulars or a least one good player out of this exchange.

Above anything, he certainly traded up from J. C. Ramírez, Phillippe Aumont and Tyson Gillies
LaMarcus for Heisman!!!

Roster:Lillard/Mathews/Batum*/LA/Lopez

*Its not pronounced with a !@#$ing s, he's french. It's Nico-la, not Nico-las.

So, was this a good trade? I sometimes don't understand how teams can trade a player that can bring results right now for a prospect that you don't know how it will turn out.

I think Smoak is legit, to me he has that Zimmerman/Braun potential but maybe that is wishful thinking on my part. I think when you pencil him into the lineup for next year with Ackley and maybe another blue chip young player that could be acquired later this month the future looks good for a change.

I'm admittedly no expert on minor league ball, but after reading up on the Texas foursome I think we did well for ourselves. Smoak sounds like a legit potential impact 1B, and he's a switch hitter; Moreno sounded great, but his power potential doesn't seem to be Safeco friendly. 1B (and catcher) has been a black hole for so long I'm glad the long term future of one of them was addressed. Beavan sounds like a solid middle of the order pitcher, potentially an above average one pitching at the Safe. Lueke sounds like he's been successful at every level of minor league ball and could join the 'pen sooner rather than later. Lawson sounds like filler. In all, it sounds like Z played this well: had an offer to Minnesota, watched the Yanks up the ante. Was close to taking the Yankee deal, which forced Texas to up their offer and include Smoak. I haven't been a fan of all of Z's moves, and obviously we won't know the full effect of this one for years, but my initial reaction is yeah, it was a good trade for Seattle. Good trade for both sides, actually, if Texas goes far into the playoffs.

Lee's given up 5 ER in 6 innings to the O's in his first Texas start. For Texas' sake, hopefully he won't go the way of Jarrod Washburn last year...

20 starts w/ Seattle: 8-6, 2.64 ERA, .223 BA, 39 ER
8 starts w/ Detroit: 1-3, 7.33 ERA, .300 BA, 35 ER

Poor Lee...of all the places for him to go, he gets the benefit of going to the one park that's going to be absolute hell on his numbers.

Lee's career numbers in Arlington are absolutely dreadful too.

As for this trade; I know NOTHING of the prospects we got in return, but Smoak is already with the big-league club, so hopefully he's ready. Sounds like he's something if we shot down the Yankees and their star minor league catcher for the Rangers deal. Haven't caught the last two games so can't give much of an opinion on what he looks like thus far.

Lee has pitched well in hitter friendly parks like Philly, New York and Boston. I would rather have him on the mound there in Texas as much as any other pitcher in the league.

Yeah. Honestly, I would just chalk it up to Lee getting off the plane and Texas throwing a uniform on him and making him pitch. Pitching him after the Break may have been wiser, letting him get acclimated with his new surroundings.
