As I said elsewhere, I really hoped he would see the M's get to the World Series before it was all said and done. When I think of Seattle baseball, I think of his husky drawl painting the picture. He will be missed, and will not be replaced. Famous people die and rarely do you feel like you knew them...but every night during baseball season we got a three hour glimpse into the man's soul.

What a genuine childlike enthusiasm he continually displayed for the game. What a sense of gratitude you always felt in him for the blessing of being able to do what he did for a living. And he was not just the voice of the Mariners, he was their number one fan from the very first pitch which he called till the day he died, through the highs, the lows, and everything in between. All his considerable talents as a broadcaster aside, this perhaps more than anything else endeared him to us as fans. He was one of us. I truly feel his loss.

I agree with you Sweezo that it's a damn shame that he never got the opportunity to call a Mariners' game on the biggest stage in baseball, the World Series. If or when we ever get there, something will be missing, as it is already missed today.

I agree too that its a shame he didn't get to call the Mariners in the WS. It is hard to hear his voice right now and not be sad.
