Adam Dunn

The man wants 4 years, 60 mil. Would you offer 4 years, 45-50 mil? Remarkably consistent power numbers, bats left handed, seems okay with being a DH.

By no means do I think Dunn is "the answer" to all our troubles, but if we're setting up for (potentially) a decent 2012, he'll be locked in and could provide a nice middle-of-the-order punch. I know the front office is saying we won't be spending much money, but I refuse to believe they can't see that you need to spend a little money to make money. Decent product = M's fans WILL show up.

Eh?

Nope.

He's 31 years old, a career NL-guy, and the cost is just too much. He's one of those big, all or nothing guys, and they do not tend to age well. I think of his likely career trajectory as similar to Sexson...who Baseball Reference actually listed as one of the top 5 guys Dunn is comparable to. Paying $15 million when he is 35 years old seems like the type of thing that cripples franchises in the long run.

M's had the 9th highest payroll in the league last year. If anything, I think the team needs to be shedding long term contracts, not adding them. The team needs to add good young talent that produces for this team in the prime of their careers, not on the downside of it.

This is what one gets when one does not fact check. I would have bet the farm I read an article on Dunn awhile back that said he was 28, but you're right, he's on the wrong side of 30. Damnation.

Yep. I didn't realize he was 31 until I looked him up [and if anyone says 31 years old is 'old' I am going to punch them in the face... ;)].

Now, if it were a two year deal? I'd be totally on board with the idea.

I thought Berkman might be a cheap, stop-gap idea but unfortunately it looks like he is signing with the Rockies for some reason.

You'd have to consider him at the right price for us.

Well, Dunn to the ChiSox.

Since we reportedly have so little money to spend, it'll be interesting to see what Z can bring in via trade.
