Seattle (37-38) @ Florida (33-42) @ Seattle (37-38)

Post#1 » by TTown » Thu Jun 23, 2011 11:54 pm

The visiting Mariners continue their road swing to take on the Florida Marlins, the host Marlins playing in the friendly confines of Safeco Field.

Felix Hernandez (7-6, 3.34) vs. Ricky Nolasco (4-3, 4.48)
Jason Vargas (5-4, 3.75) vs. Chris Volstad (2-7, 5.65)
Doug Fister (3-8, 3.34) vs. Anibal Sanchez (6-1, 2.90)

If Felix hits one out into King's Court we have a new all-time #2 franchise play, behind Edgar's '95 double.

This has been one of the best games of the year. From Felix breaking up the no-hitter to listening to the fans come up with chants throughout the game. I love it! Safeco's often a lifeless environment...great to see the fans get into it.

Great win last night. Felix was awesome. Vargas had one of his better games in a M's uniform last time, knowing vargas he will suck in this one.

Man, there's nothing quite like a dominant Felix outing. That was nice to see.

I'm hoping last night was a further sign that Guti is finally rounding into form. He had a 3-hit game against Washington on Tuesday, and another 2-hit night last night. Obviously love his D, but he's got to get going at the plate. He was down to .182 a week ago, at least he's back over the Mendoza line (.208) now.

Marlins score three in the first, game over. The lack of hitting is excruciating.

I've never seen Vargas better against Philly, and he's never been worse in the 1st inning last night. Bases loaded, no outs... that got ugly quick. Throwing softballs right over the plate... then he was downright decent the rest of the way. Unpredictable guy.

Had our chance in the 7th. Bases loaded, 1 out, Figgins up. RBI groundout. Smoak pinch hits, gets HBP. Ichiro up, based juiced... harmless grounder to third.

And as soon as Figgins came to the plate in that situation he was booed, loudly. Not by me but by damn near everyone else who was at the game last night. Here he comes with the chance to give the team a lead, and everyone's booing him.

I just don't see how he turns it around in Seattle. Any time anything little thing doesn't go his way, the fans are ready to boo him. When Peguero made that throw to third and the ball popped out of Figgins' glove on the tag, they were brutal. While he deserves to be held accountable for not producing, it's turning into an ugly scene.

Ichiro seems to have lost some of his momentum at the plate after his hit streak got snapped, hope that isnt true and he beats up Florida tonight, although I bet we'll lose since Texas lost also and we always lose when Texas loses.

Vargas you are one unpredictable fellow

Shockingly late game for a Sunday.

We waste an Ackley triple in the 4th. Fister just smacked a double in the 5th... get this man a bat. RBI over in Washington last week, too.

Ugh, Fister gives up the lead, at least we didnt fall behind but still, I dont really believe our offense can get another run at this rate.

Ackley doubles to lead off the 10th, takes 3rd on an Olivo sac fly, then scores when Florida throws an INTENTIONAL ball 4 into the backstop.

If the lead holds up, that's the second time this year a team has lost a game on a wild intentional pitch.

Triple and double for Ackley tonight, though. Love it.

Fister was great. Lost a battle in a 13-pitch AB in the 8th with his pinch count well over 100, and let the lead slip away. But he was really good all night. Jose Lopez of all people got a hit and scored the tying run.

Fister lowers his season era to 3.18... but remains at 3-8 overall. Last two games: 16 IP, 2 runs. No wins. He's eating these NL teams for breakfast, but nothing to show for it.

M's win! The entire AL West lost save us, and we jump back into 2nd.

Who needs offense when you have wild pitches!!!!!!

Good outing for Fister, I feel for him with all these no decisions, just like with Felix last year(6 no decisions or losses when allowing 1 run or less wow). We are gonna need a bat soon if we want to stay in contention.

Texas lost!!!!!!

Good God! The ways we have to score one lousy run to win a game. Another very strong performance by Fister. His ERA is down to 3.18. At least we won the series, and back to 1 1/2 games back in 2nd place. But we're going to need more hitting and runs.

Ackley is the best everyday player to come up from our farm since ARod. Finally.

lol @ Peguero finding himself in the thick of yet another dumb luck play. He's got a knack, I'll give him that.
