Nice move Jack Z, especially a one year deal! I've read Saunders was looking for a multi-year deal. Gives the team a lefty vet after King Felix and Iwakuma.

I love this signing.
Throwing out Felix, Iwakuma, Saunders, Hultzen sounds pretty sweet.

lookout landing said it best, he's pretty much jason vargas so you could now argue we got kendrys morales for nothing.
interesting splits for saunders last year: he got lit up at camden, but was one of the more dominant road pitchers in the AL. hopefully the safeco effect will help him put it all together for us.

I'm a fan of the deal. I agree than he's similar to Vargas, and I'm much rather have a player like Saunders in the rotation over Bevan/Noesi/whatever.
Plus, if Jon Garland is healthy he's not far removed from being an effective starter himself. I certainly feel more comfortable with the rotation now than I did a week ago. If one of the injury-riddled vets [Garland, Bonderman] earns a spot in the rotation, great. If one of the prospects [Hultzen, Walker, Paxton] pulls off the inexpected, that's great too. Just don't resort to putting Beavan or Noesi back out there.
