It's always tough to say, but considering that pitchers make up roughly half of your 40-man roster I personally appreciate an emphasis on pitching in drafts. This Mariners draft seemed to have a pretty even mix of starting pitching and relief pitching, which is OK given our recent success at creating a bullpen. There is no bigger crapshoot than the MLB draft for acquiring talent. That being said, we're light on power hitters and we didn't fill that need, although if you read Jensen's scouting report he may just be a power hitter at second base. Which is awesome. If we can sign him.

The thing is, we'd probably complain a bit less about the number of pitchers if our first-rounder was a five-tool position player and not a college reliever.

Interestingly, the M's drafted a high school classmate of my nephew in the 17th round. I'll have to meet this kid and try to get him to sign. Screw college, I say!

If you read this article then maybe you start to think that we piked the wrong guy in 05. Bavasi's deal is that he is supposed to be good with the young guys, if he cant even do that then what purpose does he have at all?
