Please tell me why? A 3-0 count. What was the point of it? We can't afford to give up outs when we suck at the plate. Ugh! I just don't understand it.

By the way...Ackley is the bomb. I love this guy already.

And why is Gimenez trying to bunt with two outs? Oh, because then he can watch strike three come right down the middle of the plate.

And then Gimenez watches strike 3 right down the pike. Just swing the bat for Christ's sake. At least strike out swinging.

Damn it. I'm starting to get depressed about the M's again. If we lose this one, it's a bad loss. Too many squandered opportunities. And some really dumb moves, methinks.

Come on. Surprise me with a win now.

Hey! We didn't let Kimbrel strike out the side! Progress?

What a heaping pile of ****...

Unfortunately we're very thin at catcher...Bard's on the DL in AAA, I think.

Well, i have to take back any criticism of Giminez. He pulled his oblique earlier and was trying to bunt because he couldn't even swing a bat. He toughed it out because there wasn't anyone else available to catch.

Assuming he is DL bound, who comes up to replace him? Bard may or may not be on the MiLB DL...I cannot tell.

Bedard's on the 15-day DL with a knee sprain.

1-0 ATL going into the 5th in the finale, Josh Bard of all people has our lone hit. Felix is dealin', but so is Derek Lowe.

Well, Felix isn't dealing anymore. Chalk up a sweep.

Last Tuesday. The weird thing is that we were swinging some decent bats -- for us, anyway -- at the beginning of the month, beating up on Tampa. Things cooled off, then Ackley got called up, and as good as Ackley has been out offense has gotten even worse. Go figure. Smoak's slump has NOT helped.

As an aside, I'm still waiting for Felix to turn into Felix this season. Vargas gives up 3 runs over 6 innings and we rejoice that he limited the damage, Felix gives up 3 runs over 8 and we wonder why he slacked off. He's given up 5 today. His era is creeping up to 3.37 which, in Felix terms, is quite high.

Ackley with a 2-run bomb in the 8th to pull the M's within striking distance, down 5-3.

2nd HR of the year for Ackley.

Swept. Blah. Looked like we had a hell of a rotation lined up, but nobody brought their best stuff, and ATL has a damn fine staff of their own, more than enough to disable our sad sack lineup. Insult to injury, Bedard injures his knee (thank god it's not an elbow/shoulder...).

Time to get our heads back into the game during our off-day tomorow, then:

San Diego (3)
@ Oakland (3)
@ LAA (4)

Another Padre sweep would be a welcomed sight / but however they want to do it, I'd love to claw and scrape our way back to .500 by the Break.

Ackley the god.

Sadly with Ackley's arrival Smoak seems to have forgotten how to hit, how long has it been since he homered? Hes down to batting .243. Even Kennedy seems to have cooled a bit. No actually everybody is cold other than Ackley, which is probably why we just got swept.

Anyway, hope Bedard doesnt become the old Bedard again, wouldn't want his trade value to drop if we do fall out of contention, and if we do stay in contention Bedard is still better than Luke French or whoever we have down in Tacoma.

By the way, who is this Felix imposter that was out there today. Felix feels a lot more mortal this year.

I think we can certainly sweep the Padres, their offense is about as bad as ours and their pitching staff is certainly not our level.
